Just replaced my oil pan with a new correct one from Schumacher. I also purchased the carbon fiber combination windage tray gasket package from JEGS. This is a one piece design. You dont put any gasket sealer on it and it is reusable. My question would be this. I purchased a timing cover gasket set . It came with a large piece of cork gasket that appears it could fit if you trim it. I installed the Jegs Gasket tray and did not use the extra piece of pan gasket. Everything looked good. I took a feeler gauge and ran it around the front of the pan under and between the pan and the bottom of the timing cover. everything appears to be good. What was the extra piece of pan gasket for ? It just doesnt seem to fit anywhere so I did not use it.

That piece is for the front of the oil pan where it meets the timing cover, If you were to pull the cover of off say a 100k mile engine, chances are its is going to take the gasket with it.They throw that piece in to save you the time and hassle of having to remove the oil pan to replace the entire gasket. Since you already have the oil pan off, you don't need that gasket. Toss it, or better yet save it in case you do need it in a pinch.

pan gasket

Thanks Rebel, I kinda thought that was what that was for . Just wanted the official word before I poured in the 10W30. Looks like I might be able to fire her up and give the wife back her half of the garage. 77 Dodge Monaco cop car 440.

Hi Phil,

That is good to hear about the lack of leaks from the pan. I've ordered the same item from JEGS and looking to install it in my car. A tip for the younger player, well those outside of the USA, is that the JEGS website charges heavily for postage and you are not aware of the charge until after you submit the payment (shipping was $150 to Australia on this item!). There are much cheaper alternatives to shipping and I hope that JEGS look into them, but I am very glad to hear the product itself is top notch. Hears hoping that the pan lives up to expectations.
