I am going to be replacing my stock steering wheel with one of the Grant GT style wheels, but I have never done this before. What am I going to need and where can I get it? I know I am going to need a puller, and a new "adapter" for the Grant wheel, but am I missing anything?

I was just going to call Summit and ask them for the help but figured I would ask those of you who have dealt with it before.

Thanks in advance.
Jeff

Nope that sounds to be correct, you will need a puller and a new adapter- pretty easy

Nothing to re-wire like horn button or anything? not sure just thinking out loud...

Unplug the wire from old steering wheel, plug onto new steering wheel.:idea1:

Awesome, thanks guys...I figured it was easy just didn't want to over-simplify things and make a bad judgement call. I am toying with the idea of changing the horn eventually, or just disconnecting it completely, still not too sure.

Are there certain styles/types of adapters that are recommended? I see there are a bunch of options for number of bolts, etc...

I assume you see more than 3 holes in the adapter? The adapter is supposed to fit the wheel to whatever car you're working with. The wrong adapter won't mount the wheel. It's been years since I intalled an aftermarket wheel but back then, I don't recall any universal ones but the adapter may fit different wheels to that particular car.

grant wheels seem to have a boss kit for every application, even the space shuttle.Go online to their site and check it out… HOWEVER……dont get caught like me..
I found a Grant 3 spoke mopar walnut rim, brushed stainless spokes, looked sweet, the website said fits standard colomn…. I assumed all 69 superbees where colomn shift auto or manual stick shift and therefore 'standard'…… Wrong bro.
Not enough dish on the wheel to clear not only the shifter but also the winker stalk…
The wheel looks great on display on the office wall…
Plumbeeper are sending me a new woodrim 3 spoke factory style like the Charger wheel…….. For xmas…. YAHOOO

and….. you can make a wheel puller from a flat piece of bar with 2 holes in it and use 2 bolts to screw into the base of the wheel. Make sure that the main wheel nut is at the top of the thread to protect the threaded steering shaft, load up the bolts against the flat bar and then give it a knock with a hammer and POP off she comes. Dont forget to mark where straight ahead is for your front wheels.

Good deal, thanks again for the replies. Here is the wheel I am looking at getting, wanted something smaller so I'm going to 14" diameter...

Being that I have completely re-done the interior of my car from the stock teal (light/dark) theme to flat black and grey, I figure this would compliment it quite nice.

Yeah, that's a pretty nice looking wheel and will look great on your car. You will need an installation kit and like Greg noted, it may need an extension kit to clear the dash and turn signal arm. They have those extensions on their site as well. You'll have to keep us updated with your progress and post some pics. Here's what Greg's wheel looks like...

was a merry christmas when new bits turn up….
and the government even got a backhander in duty.
Wheel looks great and feels right.
thanks Dave

I've got the old wheel pulled off, still just need to buy and install the new one. This won't be done until my dash is re-painted in the spring so I've still got some time.

When I took the old wheel off, the wire for the horn actually came off too, not at the connection though, it actually broke off like it was really weak already. It seems as though the connection on the steering column is soldered on, so now I may really need to think about NOT having a horn.
