Hi.
Since the engine is out I checked the loose steeringfeel. The ingoing axel is mowing about 4-5mm on and out before the pitmanarm i moving. Wrong?
Looked around for fast ratio box but cand find any but found these:
A-1 CARDONE 100-276542 from summit
Power Steering Gear - A1 CARDONE [Reman.]Part Number: 27-6546
on cardone website. Is it the same??? They came up on modelsearch.
With on of these and firm feel looooong pitmanarm and idler would be nice i think. Any thoughts????

is it sweeet music??????

i tear it apart today. I suspect that the gears are not ok because the axial play was "big". Can i do anything about it or just buy new stuff.

I guess you would have to figure the cost of shipping into your decision, but you could send your box to Steer and Gear or Firm Feel and have it redone. Or purchase one of their boxes and eat the core charge. If you like to drive your car the upgraded box gives much better "road feel" and does away with the "one fingered steering".While its apart you may want to replace the steering coupler as I have found them to be a wear item. Some guys have rebuilt their own boxes but I like the upgraded box for the money.

Hi Johan
Jeg vil anbefale FirmFeel - jeg har lige købt en til min 72 Charger, de kan købes med forskellige set ups, jeg har købt en GRADE 3 og det virker !
I would recommend FirmFeel - I just bought one for my 72 Charger, they can be purchased with different set ups, I bought a Grade 3 and it works!

I tried FIRM FEEL and used all of their front suspension parts on my 65 Satellite. After talking with them, I went with their #2 power steering box. I couldn't be more pleased. Fast shipping and great customer service. My car now drives and steers llike mr 09 Charger R/T.

Hi guys.

Thanks for all the input. Did not no Steeragear. Thanks.
Not worth the cost to send core back to USA from sweden so i have to take all the cost. I will put mine back dry to se what the problem is before i go ahead but if the teeth are worn it will be a new box. Just dont know witch one.

I have talked to Dick from Firm Feel and the folks at Steer and Gear as well. Both outfits have really nice people willing to help you.

I ended up going with Firm Feel for no particular reason. I got the stage II gear box and ordered a U-joint coupler from Flaming River (which requires Drive shaft cutting in the engine bay to mount). Be aware that the stage I from Firm Feel will be heavier feeling than your stock power steering. They call it the cop car unit. The stage II and III are heavier still. I'm OK with my stage II, but since I do mostly in town street driving, I sometimes wish I went with the stage I, which is still a big improvement over the old worn out stock pinky finger feel. You can also rebuild or buy rebuilt original style couplers instead of the U-joint type. I think Jim's auto might sell those. I haven't driven one, but from what I've heard, I would think the Firm Feel stage III would be overkill unless you're driving at high speed as in racing.

Hello, I would recommend Firm Feel. I actually learned of them from my friend in Gotheburg (sp?) I acted as an intermediary for him, and though there was an expensive shipping cost, he and I felt it was worth it. Much nicer than a standard rebuilt box. I have since bought 3 firm feel II's

Regards

Rich

Steer & Gear did one for me also. Very nice people to deal with.

Hi:D
Thanks for the input. Iam working on the matter. Thinking maybe 276515 from rockauto and loooong pitman and idler from FirmFeel and the some shims
on the regulator valve after reading an article from moparaction. Having a contact at rock and asked about the avability. We will see.

got a picture on 27-6515. Did not look like mine at all. :( Back to the drawing board. Read about it on cuda-challanger.com. Is those different. My friends callanger 1970 looks like mine. What........

Don't know for sure about interchange boxes. I would GUESS the B body and E body boxes should be the same. I KNOW the B body boxes have 2 different size shafts with the early , up to 72, having the smaller shaft and pitman arm. The larger shaft size will work if you buy the proper pitman arm. That is what I did in my 68. Check out the Steer and Gear or Firm Feel site. If you speak English, call them or E mail them for help.

Did you do an overcenter adjustment on the sector gear? If it is a P/S box, there will be some laterial movement of the worm gear shaft ( in put shaft ). This movement is necessary to tell the P/S fluid which way to go for assist. The movement will also look execessive if you are checking it with out the vehicle running ( P/S system powered up ). If you are sure it is bad, as said, steer & gear is the company to go to.

Hi.
Short update. I went with a normal PS gearbox from rockauto because i wanted the smaler sectorshaft because that was the old box and the price ofcourse. . Got the new one and the sector was the big one but they sent along new pitmanarm for that. If i hade known that i had orderd the 89 policebox. I hade already bought the smal sectorshaft long pitmanarm so that wount fit now. New internals for the coupler and new hat for the end. Moog ofset bushings for the uper A-arm. All back in the car. Done this setup on my camaro 1967 and it felt fine. Not a racecar but nice daily driver.
An old friend of mine i havent seen for 15 years just bought a challanger r/t 1970 and is parting the garagespace with me. 2 dodge`s and 6 bmw. Mopar rules.

Fix on guys

as you see the renovation is going forward. Some steeringparts and moog bushing instalation with my home made tool.
