I just bought the above car. The car came with a list from the previous owner and the first thing on his/my list of things that have to be done, is the brake system. It has the original brake system, but, after all of these years, I believe that the brake lines and hoses should be replaced. I am pondering taking it to a shop to have this work done, as I cannot do the work myself, as I wish I could. (Getting old sucks, but, it beats the alternative!) Any advice is appreciated!

Be prepared to get it in the keester if you take it to shop!!!!! Do you have any "younger" buddies that could help? Just trying to help you save some coin.

Actually, There IS a kid (30's) down the street that would probably jump at the chance. He has offered in the past to change oil, etc. I have to catch him to ask. I would like to get a listing of all of the brake lines, etc. I think a trip to the local parts store may be the place to go. Thanks for the reply and the advice!

UPDATE: I got in contact with the guy down the street and he can't wait to get onto this car's needs. Parts are ALL inbound here.

I bought ALL of the brake parts today and look forward to having them installed this week.

I'm replacing my brake lines now, the worst part is the firewall. I hope he has some good wrenches and some patience!

We started in on the break ln replacements. You were right as rain 65-440. The firewall is giving us fits!! The Master cylinder bolts are rounded off. I have no idea of what to do with them now. We did get the lines from each wheel done along with the wheel cylinders though.

Sometimes I can get one of these Torx sockets on a rounded off nut. Saved me a few times.

Yeah its a necessary job but not a fun one ! Master cylinder bolts ? Are you talking about the nuts that hold the master to the firewall or the brake lines going to it ?

Thank you for the advice. I told a friend of mine about this and he started laughing. I didn't know what he was going to tell me, so I was silent. He told me that the last person that replaced the Master cylinder, put the studs in from the engine compartment, instead of putting them in from the dash area! That's when I started laughing. THIS is why we couldn't get a socket or wrench to work on the bolts. It will be a pain in the azz, to get things right, but, at least we can get back to it today. I have found a lot of wiring issues that were easily taken care of, but, have me shaking my heard.

That's actually how they come from the factory, the upper right nut is kinds tricky. fortunately being under the dash, once you break them loose you should be able to spin them off with your fingers. I am putting mine back together with the nuts in the engine compartment, should make things easier !

Thank you for the tips. We are back on this again today. I thought it might have been changed out by someone other than the factory. I guess that someone had a sense of humor there. Good luck with your Master Cylinder.

The guy down the street said that he was giving up on doing the brakes. I managed to get it home by using the e brake. It is now in my driveway. I was able to locate another friend that has his own shop. It will be picked up here and taken to his shop. He said not to worry about it, that he would not be giving up on it, no matter what. So I end up taking it to a shop anyways.

It will work out, I'm sure. I found another friend that is taking it into his shop on Tuesday. He has a professional shop and said don't worry, I will not "rake you over the coals", for money, relax. Thank you again for the insight and help.

The brakes are not finished yet, but, I do have some photos of the car to post here.

I cannot stand the Spoiler, so, it will be taken off and the mounting holes for it will be filled in before paint. All other bodywork has been done. It is almost ready for a fresh Paint job. I will have it repainted in the same Gold that is currently on it. It is the original factory color, but, has been repainted before. I hope to have it registered and on the road real soon.

Glad you hate the spoiler to Haha car looks good though.

That spoiler, when I first saw it, felt like it was a needle in my eye. When I see it, it makes me think of of a 1969-1973 Mach 1.
