NHRA Pro Stock Dodges and phords with shivvy engines?

I have recently read that possible rules changes within NHRA's Pro Stock division could entail the allowance of using shivvy engines in other than shivvy branded cars. This is a possibility because NHRA's Pro Stock popularity has declined dramatically since the mandate of using fuel injection was implemented two years ago. Dodge has struggled with the fuel injection and it appears phord has totally given up. I don't know if this will come to fruition but I feel it will be the final death of NHRA Pro Stock. This would be Dodge and phord throwing in the towel and saying shivvy makes more power and I'm not ever going to say that regarding Dodge and horsepower. We all know phord has always been a little lazy in the horsepower department. I think NHRA should allow Dodge to run a true Hemi and not the canted valve spinoff. What are your thoughts?

Both NHRA and NASCAR have been preoccupied with rules changes intended to make cars more "equal". During the same time attendance at both NHRA and NASCAR races has seriously declined. I'm no expert but I'm told the NHRA RPM limit rule implemented with electronic fuel injection rule hit Mopars particularly hard. If NHRA wants Mopars to compete why not consider reversing the rules that make them less competitive? After all, doesn't making all the cars equal defeat the purpose of having a race? I think applying the 80's prostock rules to the current Challenger, Camaro, Mustang platforms and engines would make a really interesting and competitive class. It seems to me that would bring "brand" fans back to NHRA. Saving the current prostock class by putting GM engines in everything is a waste of time from a fan point of view. I'm willing to bet fan interest will decline even more. My two-cents.

In other words, Pro Stock will be just like FunnyCar where everyone runs a hemi but slaps on the badge and paints on the grill/headlights of whichever brand will give them money.

They have always sanctioned the Mopars because they want the shivvies to win. Way back in the 60's they were doing it. If a Mopar won, the would make them add weight so the shivvies could compete better. They just come up with different ways to make it happen. Nothing new.
I remember Bill France making the statement on National TV. (I don't care if Ford or Dodge ever wins another race as long as Chevrolet comes out on top."

IMO they'd be great if they'd just
Make a spec class factory "stock" racecars,
like the Drag Pak & Cobras & Copos
sort of like they have now, but a "Pro" {Stock}-Class
replace the P/S with Pro-Mod,
hell they get 24-32 cars in qualifying
almost 2 times what they get in P/S,
they run what you brung, it isn't body or make specific at all...
That'd satify the lame losers in charge & the fans
like them better now anyway...
but;
NHRA doesn't rarely {televise} show them P/M,
only 10-12 event ran too...

Stepping over $$$ to save nickels,
Pro-stock is dead, or on it's last leg & will die faster...

I agree with every post. We The Mopar Faithful know we can outrun the competition but we can never outrun the stroke of sanctioning bodies ink pen. History proves it.

I guess it is because if you look at any of the top fuel racers, they are all running some version of the Hemi.
Believe me, if the Chevies and Fords were not winning, they would have been outlawed long ago.
They may have a Bozo emblem on the car but the distributor is up front on the right.

nhra did outlaw hemi's in comp eliminator in 1971. at the 1970 nationals a mopar powered vehicle won every eliminator class and that's why wally parks started pushing the hemi's out

Only a HEMI can make 12,000 HORSEPOWER.With a engine design that is over 50 years old(Gen II).No other company has been able to make such HP .Least in my eyes.

Me too. A big block shivvy hasn't qualified in Top Fuel since 1975 and a Hemi eliminated it in the first round. How's that for domination? I love it!
