I'm in the process of tearing this old race car apart and the dash is all metal with no dash pad. This is a base model sedan so I think that may be original. Can someone confirm?

Thanks, snook

I'll see when I pull it out if there is any evidence of that. It looks undisturbed.

a few years earlier maybe, but AFAIK, all 66's had pads

66, even a base model would have had a dash pad.

I looked and I can't find any evidence of a pad. There are no holes in the dash that would have been there for a dash pad. No telling with this one though. I don't think I'll be installing a pad, IMO looks way cleaner without one. I may go old school and mount a tachometer on top with nice chrome pod gauges. I think I have an old Moroso mechanical tach & drive around here somewhere...

Thanks for the help guys!

is it a "WE" economy price class car?

OK, you may have a case.

Pics might help

I'll get some later today when I go out and beat on it some more.

Very interesting.

I was certain I'd seen at least a few 66/67 WE/RE cars, but I don't remember them not having dash pads.

Guess we learned something.

I have a base WE radio delete with a dash pad. You have a dash grill with AC vents, base model with AC? It seems like a bunch of work but I imagine the holes were filled.

To tell if they were filled bet you could tell if you from the inside. Don't think anyone would grind welds on inside.

good catch

a base model even lower (and older) than my RL.....with AC!

I'd love to see the build sheet for that car

Unless it's a fleet vehicle

I bet it's got "sold car" on the tag

I don't think it's an AC car - I think those vents were added to the cluster. There are NO HVAC controls in the dash but I'll have the heater box out when I get the dash out. Like I said this car is a CF. I should have the dash out tomorrow and I'll get some shots of the backside. No fender tag or BS with the car - lost in space somewhere.

...also a good catch

factory 66/67 Coronet center AC vents are in the bottom of the dash.

...of course that suggests if a former owner was willing and able to cut the dash to add those vents...they may have filled in the pad mounting holes.

I'm willing to learn something new, and no dash pad would have been new to me, but with the few safety regulations in 66-67, my reasoning said no. If someone can prove this no dash pad thing, I'm listening.

Well, the goober patched the holes and used mopar armrest bases for the defrost ducts. I thought I had seen everything but this one takes the cake. See pics
