I am not much of an electrician but this weekend I hope to determine why the TEMP and FUEL gauges are not functioning on my 1967 Satellite. Everything is new except the wiring harness, which was pulled and re-installed after restoration.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

were they both working prior to being pulled?

do other gauges on panel work?

could be that harness connection needs to be re-seated.

my guess is that you PAINTED your metal dash mount and are not getting a good ground. run a ground wire to a good known ground.

this is a big BIG problem after a restoration. people dont think of the grounds that are needed and the brand new paint obstructs getting one.

My 69 RR had a voltage limiter that was bad. It mounts on back of the instrument cluster. A rectangular metal box. Has 2 prongs sticking out, just plugs in. Available at Advance Auto Parts. Check it out.

Oops, I missed a could of reply notifications on this.

I replaced the voltage limiter, I now get an occasional reading from both gauges so I too am leaning toward a possible ground issue.

Is there a particular place on the dash or cluster that I should run the ground too? The voltage limiter appeared to have a prong for ground as well. I will take another crack at it this weekend.

Thanks!

Just make sure you have a good clean metal showing for your ground wire. Maybe sand it a little first.

one of yer pins on the cluster circuit board could be loose as well

I had to solder all of mine on my Dart to get gauges working again

Man, i looked at this thread and said to myself, "i don't have gauge issues!"

Upon further inspection, we're an apostrophe apart. I guess one of us should have been more creative picking an alias. Good luck with the fix, and welcome to the forum!
