Rebuilt my tranny, used only good stuff from tsr...Installed lokar kick down cable...First and second are firm and crisp....It,ll shift manuelly up and down from 1 to 2 and 2 to 1...I guess my next step is to check the 3rd gear govenor in my valve body....What else should i check????
Thanks for the help

Check the front band adjustment first (the externally adjustable one).

It was torqued at 72 ft ilbs then backed off 2 1/4 turns according to carl munroe.s book torqueflite a 727 hand book...I will check again ...

Thanks alot!!

adjust your lokar cable.. sounds like you are getting too much pressure into your VB and causing it to 'not' want to shift into third. its cheap, its free, and it only takes 5 minutes tops.

Yeah i,m goona do that this weekend...I guess the key is a 1 to 1 ratio at the carb and tranny linkage...Thats what the guy said at tsr racing...He says they have a good product but don,t know **** about installing it...
Thanks man....

Hopefully you mean 72 inch pounds - not ft lbs- if you actually took it to 72 foot pounds, that is your problem- all you want to do is snug it ( tight snug with fingers is close enough- then back it off 2 1/4- if you overtighten it the band will not release and you will not get out of second ) along with frying the 3rd gear clutches)

I have a quick question as I'm in the middle of fixing this issue. I have a rebuilt B&M trans (727). I've adjusted the front bands to 72inch pounds backed off 2 1/4 turns, adjusted then rear bands to 72in-pd and backed off 2 turns. Can someone tell me where the throttle pressure screw is? I don't have my kick down hooked up either.
I'm not getting into 3rd gear, it just stays in 2nd and revs up to 5000rpm and no shift.

Why isn't your kickdown hooked up? Without it, unless you have a manual VB, it's not going to work right and burn up. If the kickdown lever isn't moving when the throttle is moving, your pressures are way off....

Thanks Cranky! Its not on because i just got the drivetrain installed and wanted to drive ti finally lol owell now i know everything in adjusted correctly i just have to install my kick down!

Not saying it's your problem....generally, when the kickdown isn't hooked up, it'll shift way early no matter what the throttle position is. If the lever on the trans is all the way back, it usually won't shift up until max speed but the kick down lever at the trans is supposed to be spring loaded so it's all the way forward. Get everything set up like it's supposed to be and then diagnose any problems it may have.
