Hello everybody . Here is a question . I purchased a set of NOS seat covers from a reputable company. I noticed that the stitching in a couple of spots seams to to be coming apart. Is NOS material any good. I'm very disappointed in the quality. Let me know what you think.
Thanks guys

NOS (new old stock) parts. .. still have the age…inspection is very important.

As far as any interior fabric is concerned, I personally would not get NOS to fit a quality restoration for myself - as you have witnessed the stitching has starting coming apart. I would however love to see the NOS article for the purposes of reproduction - to get the same matching looks for a new fabric. I have mentioned this before here, I had a new repro headliner for my car - took me 3 years before I could fit into the car. I only wish that I had unpacked it soon after I received it....took ages to get the fold marks and wrinkles out of the material. Fabrics and materials can have a very long 'memory' when it comes to creases you don't want.

For your seat covers, I would lay them out, check for damage, then fit them to the seats as soon as you can. But I would leave the seats in a warm place before putting them back in the car - to let the fabric relax and draw out some of the lines/creases & fold marks.

Good luck.

Ok thanks it sucks that I had to pay for it first though

Covers have been on for about 6 months just noticed the stitching a couple of days ago. It figures that it's a rare color and NOS.

The problem will be, that if it's actually NOS - we're talking about a 50-year old piece of material. That stitching will be dry and easily prone to breaking down now that it has been exposed to moisture and sunlight etc.

...and sat on. :D

Legendary did a gold interior in a 70 Roadrunner. Nobody made the material so they had to find NOS. The seats came out real nice with no problems. The stitching may be a different story though. Also, the quality back then may not have been that good (assembly line)?

I see . I was told by the company that covers had to be made . So the stitching would be new. Any way if it comes apart I will have it repaired.
Thanks

My seats are also gold . I think it was just crappy workmanship.

If you go to Carlisle look for the black 70 Roadrunner with gold interior. It's the only one I know of that used NOS material for the seats. See how his turned out.
