So I'm messing with my 63. Just wonderin' if anybody removed the upper control arm rubber bump stop ? I got my front up like I want it but now have very little travel where the control arm meets the frame.Rubber bumpers removed. Bangs hard when I hit bumps driving on the streets.(I know, don't hit any.) Just asking for advise.Car has 2'' lower leaf springs that Eaton Detroit Springs made. Right now has VW 165/80/15 front tires that are 26'' tall. I have plans to go to 215/75/15's that are 27 7/8 ''.
Stuck in the 60's with a drive shaft tube for a front bumper. Love that Gasser look.

We really need some pics of that ! It's a long winter ahead...

Poor photo, with shadows and the car facing down hill. but it's all I have at the moment.I have plans to change the front tires and wheels in the next few days.

Thanks, As you can see I have no problem cutting things on this car. I think I'll saw 'um off when I swap out the tires.

Thanks for the suggestion.I would love to do a straight front axle. Not in the budget. I bought this thing as a complete running and driving "Parts" car. Was a Poly and a 3 speed stick.I gave that away. After tearing the parts off for another project,a nice LA 318 and 904 came my way along with a bunch more parts I had for years so the thought was a low buck beater. The only things I bought new were the headers, front bucket seats, shifter and tires. The rest is stuff I had.

Ordered these on Amazon And cranked up torsion bars to have 1/2" clearance. Still lets shocks do there job.

That's the look I'm after of the 62 in your avatar. Thanks !

You could lower the rear end some more for more effect....and yeah, I removed the stops on my 66 but the car is still hibernating in the enclosed trailer.

What I did, was to cut off part of that rubber bumper. So it was about 3/8 " thick. You may raise the torsion bars so far, you can no longer be able to set alignment. ....................MO

You can remove them but it only gains you about 1/2" of travel. I measured it on my 64 looking for more travel on my drag car. Aftermarket tube arms have more clearance. Later FMJ body spindles are 3/8" taller which helps also.

Thanks guys, I like doing these kind of cars. Lots of guys have a misconception that you can't have a fun car for under $ 10 grand.
I went to a car show and a young guy with kids pulled in with a real ratty 68 Coronet,He parked away from the the other cars.We said "Hey there is plenty of room with us."(The Mopar guys) His response "I'm embarrassed,my car's not nice." We stated that your car is as good as you can make it.You are still working on it. At least you got a car.The guys that would talk down to you most likely don't even have a car.
I'm also the guy that loves to mess with the Ford and Chevy guys that meet for coffee every Monday, most of them don't know a hammer from a screwdriver that buys their cars done. I'll park my beater right next to 'um. Some will say "Why don't you bring your Hemi car?" My response is "I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.":poke:

Does not look low enough to hit all the time.Shave that stop down so there is still something there and not metal to metal. A taller front tire will help the look and clearence!

Been down with the flu. Hope to get it on the rack soon,I'm thinking that the noise may not be coming from the upper a arms.
Old age got me thinking I may have missed tightening something. It runs and drives real nice though.

If I ever get my car running again, it'll be the ratty one and will park it in the middle of the nicest cars if possible :D

I've been hit with the dreaded red X. Oh well can't please everyone..
