I want to connect my air/fuel gauge so I need to get the bung for the oxygen sensor welded in. I've got stock manifolds then a custom 2 into1, 3" exhaust. Should it be placed as close as possible to the manifold, or further downstream? I'm only doing one, so I guess I have to pick a side, unless it's okay to put further back. In that case I could put it in the single pipe.
My gut tells me it ought to be in the headpipe, as close to the manifold as is possible or practical.
Am I right on this?

It's supposed to be as close as possible. I welded in bungs on both of my header collectors for my wideband.

A lot of factory setups are placed right after the Y pipe in a single exhaust pipe system but the Y merge is pretty close to the engine.

Mmkay, that's kinda what I figured. If I had headers the collector would seemto be the most likely spot. Newer vehicles usually have several sensors placed in various positions depending on their function, or what they report to. I know some people put one on each bank, but I'm gonna go with one, at least for now. I may upgrade later.

Thanks

Yes, as close as possible to the head but that's hard to do with headers. I suppose if you can place it right in the stream where the 4 tubes merge that might be good.
