Does anybody still buy original style sealed beam headlights these days without the tabs on them? If so, where do you get them? I've tried Autozone, O'Reilly's and NAPA, and all they sell is 6024 with the tabs!

Please explain what you mean by "the tabs". Is this on the terminals as pictured? Just curious as to what the problem is. I know that 6014 was the industry number for many years for the single seal beams. I'm not familiar with 6024.. (And now all my old Mopar cars have the 4 headlights system.)

Yes, so each terminal now has a tab, for lack of better terms, sticking out on each post. They limit how far you can insert the terminals onto the socket. You can push the tabs in, but still can't get the terminals all the way into the socket.
6024H, Sylvania, perhaps other manufacturers, seems to be the "be all end all" of sealed beam headlights now.
I suppose I could cut the old sockets out and replace them with new ones, but I'd rather find the old school bulbs for the time being.
The pic shows just how far the terminals will go into the sockets.

I wouldn't change the OEM plugs on the harness. Why not cut / file off the offending tabs on the bulb bayonets? Or can you just bend the tab back flush with the bayonet?

Yeah, I tried that with one of the bulbs. They still wouldn't go back any further. Probably need to file down the terminal sides too.

it would not go any further because they don't fit more into the female end either Those prongs are longer than should be... these gets the tabs too but on a shorter prong, so the plug seems to be closer to the headlight. The diff is between the tab and the L bend and the terminall is attached deeper down into the beam terminal pin

My suggestion is buy new old stock bulbs as you don’t want to alter anything .. that’s what I did. Google old GE 4000 series bulbs, they are out there.. it’s your choice best of luck! You may also consider a headlamp relay kit ( I can’t recall who makes them here) but I really think those are good thing for helping the load on the bulk head. Good luck!

I appreciate all the help folks. Amazing how replacing a couple headlights can stir up so much uncertainty! The GE series don't seem to be available anywhere so far; RockAuto, eBay, or Amazon, although the big A lists them, but are currently out of stock with no future date of availability. Amazon does list a Sylvania H5006 for $15. The Wagner has three prongs, but they're different altogether. Those are $18.50 on Amazon. I'm just leery of shorting out the system at this point.

Like I said yesterday in a PM, post a WTB for some old stock bulbs or browse Facebook Marketplace etc. Where I got all those old 4001's and I only had to drive 6 blocks across our little one horse town.

So yesterday, I posted this question on Amazon for the Wagner H5006 bulb. This is the reply I received.

H5006 are for 4 BEAMS setup ( small diameter ) if you are searching for your 66 they won't work because your ones are the big ones. I just posted that pic as an example of how they get the same tab, but seems to be smaller because their terminals fit diff ( higher ) than the 6024s you got.

all 6024s available at this moment are with the longer prong attaching lower into the sealed beam terminal, but the socket will reach the same point not just because the tab, but the deepness of the female socket. Wagners gets a protective housing which will make them look better thought

Both Wagners are avaiable halogens, so better get a relay upgrade for them

Thanks Nacho! I went to O'Reillys, they have the Sylvania H5006, three prong. I was on their website before I left and it said they had them. I entered the info for my particular car, 1966 Plymouth Satellite, and it said they didn't fit that car. 1967 and beyond, no problem, but not '66. I ordered them anyway. If they don't work, I'll take em back.

Thanks. I sent a message to a guy from WI, but he only has one.

A day later and I should have read your response more carefully Nacho. The 5006 is too small..5 3/4". Just ordered a LMP6014N from NAPA.
