Offset leaf hanger question

I got these from mancini and after I modified them and my car so they will fit I notice there will be a problem getting a nut to fit behind them where they meet the frame rail. Anyone got any ideas?

Hey Daytona Kid . . . how about welding the nut to the side of the bracket, then drilling out a hole in the frame for the welded nut to fit into.

Or the other option - weld the nut into the frame rail so that it lines up with the bolt to screw it in ( this would take some serious alignment to get it right )

Just a couple thoughts . . .
 
I think welding the nut on the hanger and drilling a hole for it is my best bet. I hate drill holes in the frame tho.. Thanks
 
I cut a hole through the frame rail on a 70 Cuda for a similar setup and made it large enough for a thin wall socket to reach through.

I think Cranky has a good point . . . what about drilling a hole through and welding in a tube to add back the strength - then you can run a socket through the tube ? ?

welding the tube on both sides would put the strength back in the frame . . . whatcha think ? ?
 
That sounds good also, but I think what I may do is weld the nuts to the hanger after I cut the nuts in half, 1st- because I don't think it will go in a hole as the studs go in theirs. Also 2, I think I should put a nut on each of the 2 position holes in case I want to move the mount spot up or down. Then to get some strength back, weld the hanger to the frame but with welds that can be easily cut out.

I'm going to drill through the frame using the hanger for a guide weld in a tube and get a bolt to go all the way through. Should be solid as a rock and frame will be sealed back up.

I put US Car Tool torque boxes on also, see 69 GTX on members projects.

I was thinking about that also, That seems like a very good way. I have US Car Tool boxes also, I want to tac them on is why I'm trying to get this stuff in that area right, now. Thnx guys!

Got one side fixed up. Will do the other tomorrow. Welded the reinforcing plates also.

Nothing to see on the other side. As in your 1st suggestion, I welded the nut on the side of the hanger, used my die grinder to minimize it's size then drilled a hole in the frame rail for it to fit in. I figured welding the hanger to the rail does 2 things, 1-gives the hanger more strength and 2-makes the rail even stronger than before I drilled the hole. The hanger metal is much thicker than the frame. And I put the welds where they can be easily cut off in case the hanger ever needs to come back off, which I doubt it ever will.

What did you do for the rear shackles?
The offset kit comes with offset shackles also, as you can kinda see on the left in that last pic..

Okay Daytona Kid . . . Gotcha ! ! ! Sounds good - and preserves the strength in the frame ! ! Looks great - Great Job ! !
 
Thought of a 3rd benefit to welding the hanger to the frame. It should also help prevent any possibility of side to side force movement/flex of the hanger which would also transfer to rear end, wheels and tires. This might factor in during hard cornering.
Not sure what you meant by pics of how I finished it up. Didn't get any pics of the nut after I welded it to the hanger and before I welded the hanger to the frame.
Got the other side done, went smooth as planned.

On the rear of my car we made gusseted tabs off of the tubular bar that runs horizontally from fram rail to frame rail. It is also the bat that my chute mount attaches to and the trunk bars tie into from the main hoop.
