I am trying to install an oil dipstick in my 500" RB but can't seem to get it in. The engine is in the car and the headers are installed. Is there a trick to this? I have tried to hammer it in from the top but that didn't work so I am looking for some advice.

not sure, but does the dipstick fit inbetween the headers and block?you might have to take the header off so the dipstick can slide in the hole at the correct angle.

Try getting a 7/16 flare wrench above the ridge at the base and hammer on the wrench. A little grease helps.
Some people file the tube down to let it slip in easier and use a little silicone sealant.

i took a steel tube about 20" long that the i.d. is slightly larger than the o.d. of the dipstick tube and cut a 4" notch out of the end so i could wrap it around the dipstick tube at the bottom, the tube will sit on the bung at the bottom and then you can tap on the top and the impact from the mallet will transfer to the dipstick tube bung.taps right in,just make sure that your angle is right on. (dont forget to put a litte permetex on the end.

I had to remove my header to keep from twisting the dipstick...Twisted one to death trying...

Thats going to suck when I have to do it..heres hoping it slips right in.....plus I need to buy one...

I assume it's the tube you are having trouble with - or the dip stick itself??

If it's chrome you may have to grind the finish off where it fits into the block. That's a common problem...I had to do it to mine. They make it so it fits good and then chrome it...then it's too big.

I used an angle grinder on mine as well to take just a little material off. Not much though.
