Hey people has anyone ever had oil leak from the top two bellhousing bolts onto the fly wheel??? Is this possible ?? It looks to be dry out side the bell housing, I have degreased everything and ran it for half hour and it looks like the top two bolts are leaking, please help

I believe there are two plugs in the back of the block behind the cam, maybe that is the source?

Oil sender tap? On a big block, there are two tapped holes in the back just above the bell housing bolts and if they leak, they will drain oil right over them.

Yeah I can see the cam plugs it's not coming from them and its dry around oil pressure sender and other plug, the outside of the bellhousing looks dry it seems to be leaking around the top two bellhousing bolts, maybe I will pull them out and put some rtv on them and check it again, sounds weird hey

That is odd, but like you said, pull them and see if you get a gusher. I just don't see how those can leak oil.

Sonny would like to Know what the heck it could be?:eusa_eh: Those pesky oil leaks!
...please keep me posted
Thanks!
:tiphat:

Also found a leak from rear of crankshaft where pilot bearing could go, was cracked crankshaft. Was very hard to find and pinpoint location. Check those oil plugs first. Remove plugs and reseal.

i've got oil inside my bellhousing too, but can't tell where it's coming from as it all gets blown around. even getting on the pass, side header collector!

I too had/have the very same damn problem. On the old motor it was leaking oil out the bellhousing and just covered/baked oil on the new TTI headers and exhaust. Installed a new RMS and kept doing it. Pulled the old motor for the new motor, and could not find one damn wet oil spot to hint where the oil was coming from, back of the block was bone dry. :angry1:

My rb block drips about a quarter size drop every month or so in the summer... I cannot find it!...... but not on clutch or flywheel etc...

drears!:eusa_boohoo:

oil leaks, oil leaks.

Not sure about small blocks but on an RB your choices are: Rear block face cam freeze plug, horizontal oil bore plugs, rear main seal. On the top of the rear block flange: the sending unit port or the plugged vertical oil bore plug. I'm sure there are more savvy guys that can help..... Hello Budnicks????

No matter what it is, Oil leaks make a damn mess of things. Let us know what you find.

Ok guys I have degreased it again and ran it for longer with some higher revs and have found the gear box front seal or gasket or both is leaking a lot but is coming out between the gearbox and bellhousing which is good in a way cause I'm about to pull the box out to replace the clutch but bad in another cause I just rebuilt the box only 12 months ago and have prob done 500 miles, the oil at the top of bellhousing is still a mystery so I'm putting new valve cover gaskets and inlet valley gasket on as they are weeping a little, and the oil pan (sump) is leaking around a couple of the bolt holes so new sump gaskets aswell, can I use the rubber coated steel sump gaskets (2) with the windage tray ???

Valve covers at the end of the block will do it also.....ask me how I just found this out? I think my cover has a crack, so off it comes to check.

I also have some cracks in the paint on my oil pan and in one spot where the paint is cracked and flaking off a bit it looks like there is oil under the paint. Anyone have any good ideas on how to check the sump for hairline cracks ???

I have 4 bolt hole valve covers......I think that was why they went to 6.
...also this started on my car when I went with --->AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil.
I Rather have a leak and better lubrication...
....I think?:eusa_pray:

If the front seal of the transmission is leaking, the clutch is probably oil soaked. How many miles are on the clutch? Anyways, the flywheel/clutch combo acts like a windmill for oil leaks but you should have oil coming out at the bottom of the bell housing too if the trans is putting out enough oil. If you are only seeing it at the top of the bell, then you have leaks at the top of the engine for sure. As for the question on the sump gaskets....never used them with a tray before so I can't answer you on that.

I don't think the 2 o/p holes if leaking will get INSIDE the bellhousing. It will run down the side of the block. The same for the rear of the intake or the back of the valvecovers.:blob1:

Can check for a oil pan crack by removing from car, clean and put gasoline in sump. If it is cracked thinner fluid would show leak(or paint thinner?)
