I recently found an oil leak around either the filter and plate, or the plate and block. Gasket seems to be fine and the plate seems to be on correctly. Wondering if this might be caused by too much oil pressure, and if anyone else has had this problem.

Not sure what you mean by, the plate, but on my SB I was convinced my filter was leaking but after closer exam, I discovered it was my valve cover.

There is a adapter plate that attaches to the block with a thin gasket between that and the block, and the oil filter attaches to that. It's sandwiched between the filter and the block. And I'm sure it's coming from that area only because I happened to be standing right there at the moment it happened.

somtimes that gasket is a little to big in the crappy gasket sets we get these day's pull the filter and the plate and check to see if the gasket is the right size. some gasket kits come with a few gaskets for that make sure you have the right one i have also seen where the plate is deformed they are all the same 318 340 360 all ineterchange.

We're talking about an adapter for a remote filter I assume and some of the kits have crapppy gaskets... I would try a gasket off an oil filter with a thin layer of gasket maker on both sides and clean the surfaces good with laquor thinner
