so, im putting the 440 source oil pick up tube in the block to ck oil pu to oil pan clearance.

i put the tube where i want it to be, and i have about 9/16ths of and inch, so im cool with that, but the tube was no 100% tight.

when i turn the tube to make it tight, it is way off, and the pan would not be able to go on.

im first plan of attack would be to figure out a way to shim it some how to index it and at the same time get it square with the pan.

any advice would be appreciated!

If you could find a pipe die of that size you could chase the threads the amount you need. 1/4 turn more on the pipe die will get you 1/4 turn on the pick up tube and so on.

Or, you could some of the threads off. Done that before without problems.

How tight is it? I have put a pipe wrench on them and turned them in pretty tight.

The pipe die would be the way to go IMO. Buying the die might be expensive for a one time deal, but any plumbing shop or maybe some hardware store (if real hardware stores still exist) could do the thread cutting.

OR...Just wrap the threads with thread tape. There is even a version of Loc-Tite just for this sort of thing. I don't recall, but I think it might be the green stuff. Seals and locks the tube in place but not so much you can't remove it later.

If you're just turning it by hand it isn't tight enough, you need to put a pipe wrench on it.

The tube threads nice and smooth by hand all the way down to the bottom, not like OE tubes. This it the delma

Maybe have the tube threaded farther up, enough to get some type of jam nut on there first. Blue Loc Tite as you thread it in and jam nut it at the prefect placement. Just a thought. I know it is a pipe thread but Home Depot probably sells a jam nut for a lot of their pipe threaded supplies.

Get the pipe wrench on it! trust us a good turn will work, had to do the same on the stroker kit.

Just curious. Has this block been modified for 1/2" tube? Kind'a sounds like the tap may be too deep with 9/16" pan clearance.

If the tube is truly bottoming out in the block you've got a problem with the block or pickup that isn't going to be fixed with shims or any other thing. NPT threads don't work that way.

Threads still showing on the pick-up? Grab the pipe wrench, it'll spin 1 full turn easily. If it's out of thread (pick-up threads not showing, bottomed out) take a pipe die and add at thread or two to the pick-up. Pipe thread is tapered so adding a thread or two will take care of it.

If this is not air tight you will have trouble
hand tight plus a full turn is ok unless it bottoms out then figure which piece is wrong and fix

so, i have solved this issues, and will also finger 440source for sourcing straight up **** on this part!

whoever signed off on this POS prolly never tried to install it on an engine, that tottally pisses me off when vendors dont check there house brands for fit and finish.

needless to say, its the worst pipe thread ive ever seen.

got a Milodon pick up from Jeggs cyber monday for 43$ shipped, it fits right, it fits tight, it starts to get some resistance just over half way down the threads, it starts at .645 thou, where the "other" parts starts at .617 and ends up at .650 and the very top, and is not even close to being in the right place.

deff avoid the off brand crap for your oiling system, im glad i didnt try to run this crap at all!
