The spring below came out of my 440 oil pump pressure relief. Obviously it's not red, but though it looks black in the pic, it's really a dark gun metal grey. Is this what the black spring looks like? Also probably not visable in the pic but the ends are somewhat worn. is that okay? Thanks!

I'm sure any paint it might have had on it got washed away. By worn ends if you are referring to the coils being flattened, that is not wear. It's part of the spring manufacturing process. As springs go, the more coils per inch (all else being equal) the lower the spring rate. Still doesn't help you determine what this is exactly, but looking at the pic, and if memory serves, it looks like a stock 50 lb spring to me. I might have one to compare it to but I'd have to find it.

Yea, I know that the ends are machined flat, just seemed that the finished areas were a tad rough. I have opened up pumps older then this to find the red color perfect, but this one has no color at all, no little flakes of red in the pump, or engine for that matter. Just a plain old spring colored spring.

Just courious about it. By the way, we no longer have a MP distributor locally. Were can I get a pump gasket kit, and the black spring for that matter? Thanks!

You might try Summit or Mancini Racing.
