I like white Teflon paste in the brush top can. I figure, it helps seal, but it will also prevent the threads from galling up and allows you to get it a bit tighter. Loctite products have a similar effect, as they are designed to be a lubricant when viscous.
I would NOT put loctite on it under ANY circumstances. The important thing is to make sure it doesn't suck air. Its a pipe thread, use a high temp liquid teflon available at most parts stores. The Permatex (if you use that brand) containers usually don't say "Liquid Teflon" it will say "Liquid PTFE" on it.
The pickup should stop around 1/4 turn from the correct position. You then use a pipe wrench to turn it to the correct position. Don't go crazy, and don't go PAST where you need it to stop, creep up on it and double check as you tighten.
