I'm originally from Oklahoma so I'm familiar with most of these places. It was the last of the Indian Nations, hell some courts say it still belongs to the Indians. My mom was a Norwegian immigrant up in Montana. She said the barrooms still had signs saying no Indians. Montana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, you still don't go acting the fool around Indians.

This is a list of Native American place names in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma has a long history of Native American settlement and reservations. From 1834 to 1907, prior to Oklahoma's statehood, the territory was set aside by the US government and designated as Indian Territory, and today 6% of the population identifies as Native American. Many of the Indians who were forced to migrate during the Trail of Tears were forcibly relocated to Oklahoma.

  • Oklahoma – invented by Chief Allen Wright as a rough translation of "Indian Territory"; in Choctaw, okla means "people", "tribe", or "nation", and homa- means "red", thus: "Red people".[1][2]

On A Rainy Day A little Native American Asks his Dad...

Why is my brother named Soaring Eagle? The Chief replies, "When your brother was born the first thing I did was take him outside, and saw a eagle soaring through the air." The boy then asks, "Why is my sister named Sitting Bull?" The boys father says, "When your sister was born I brought her outside and the first thing I saw was A bull sit down in the field. Why do you ask Two Dogs F**king?"

Minnesota is much the same. The names of cities, towns, rivers and lakes are commonly based on the indigenous tribes languages.

Camped at Wah-Sha-she State Park about 13 years ago on our way to Alaska. Spooky kind of place at night when you are the only campers there. Then, the ranger shows up about 9pm wanting his money.
