Old Funny Cars

That brings back memories. Kosti Ivanof, Al Sergrini, Gary Burgen, Dale Pulde, names you don't hear anymore. Back when Funny Cars looked like the cars they were molded after, not a carbon fiber wedge with stickers all over it. Back before the big transporters. I sure miss them days.

Thanks for posting

Thanks for sharing the video! It was fantastic! brings back a lot of memories of days gone by. Like KD stated You could identify with the cars then!when an independent could actually run a true funny car! Now it's just whose got the biggest sponsors! A number of cars from back then are being built and ran in Nost.Funny car events!

Yeah, 32 car fields, fire burnouts. All the cool stuff. Probably aren't 32 good cars in the country nowadays.

Loved that era too, when F/C & racecars in general, all had names &
there were still a bunch of independents/low buck working stiffs, running teams,
still racing in T/F & F/C,

before it became multi million cubic dollar super sponsors & teams, like today...
I remember going to Ontario or Orange Co. International, Irwindale, Lions/SoCal area {like different 10 tracks} or NorCal Fremont or Sacramento, Lodi, Halfmoon Bay, Sears Point etc. & seeing a 32-64 F/C field & 32 T/F or F/C Cackle-fests,

Fuel Altered's was my thing...

when racing was dangerous & sex was {somewhat} still safe...LOL

remember all the dry hops & extra burnouts
or really long burnouts, a show for the fans for sure,
that's a big part of what lacking today,
the showmanship excitement factor/effect etc.

Nope, there isn't 32 cars in the country now. I was watching an NHRA race on TV this year and it became apparent they didn't have 16 at eliminations. Had 15.

I remember when SIR in Seattle advertised "64 Funny Cars!" I still have a ticket stub from one of those!

Sad.

I happened to be watching an old tape I had of the 1986 US Nationals. Man the crowd... It was a sea of people from the fence to the top of the stands, all the way down the track.
Now you watch it and they can hardly fill the stands.
Of course If I remember correctly the weekend passes were only around $75.00. that was Thursday - Monday.

My favorite 70's funnycar...

Old F/C's then most were from the old AWB AFX Class, nicknamed Funny Cars
