The tail shaft how many shift mounts?b body or a body

the dual mount 23 spline 833 can be used on either a, B or E body, if I remember correctly...

If you 833 has a shifter mount near the case and one out at the end it's a 70 or later tail shaft. As Bud says, B or E body application.

can i replace that tail shaft with a one mount closer to case shaft?

The pre 70 transmission will have one mount and that will be close to the case. The 70 and newer will have both but none will have only the rearward mount but sounds like you might have an 'A' body transmission with the shorter tail shaft? You can swap out the tail shaft on that for the longer TS....

how long should the pre 70 tail shafts for b body be?it is a 833 with 23 spline shaft.

Tail shaft housing and output shaft length for the early and late B / E body are the same overall length. The A body is shorter and the tranny mount is in a different location too. If it helps, the B / E body 833 is the same length as the big block TF but the tranny mount is in a different location.

Remember the transmission crossmember mount locations will be different too. I was just recently reminded of this by a member.
