Well, apparently the upper ball joint is supposed to thread in..... The threads didn't look much like threads to me so I just pressed it in.. That was 10 months ago and it seems okay. I didn't crack the upper control arm or anything. God do I feel stupid.

Yeah they look like funny, slanted threads, Probably wont have too much fun if you change them again.

Mongo change ball joint......

Ball joint tight press fit, Mongo press harder....

sorry...

lol!!

LOL @ Mongo! Yeah, they look kinda odd alright. I've even seen tack welds on them before....

vintagetin I'm so sorry!! I just can't help myself! Mongo was the first thing that popped into my head.

Here maybe I can make you feel better if I confess that the first mopar I worked on I stripped the threads and ruined lug nuts on the drivers side rear tire trying to take a wheel off because I didn't know about the reverse thread thing lol!!

That was my "Mongo moment"

Dang, You know they make a tool for that right?

Yeah, it was actually in the kit I used to press it in. It was actually easy to press in! ahhahaa....damnit... I got the kit again and I'm going to put the socket on it. I believe the torque specs are 125 ft/lbs. If I can torque it to that spec and it holds, I'm going to leave it alone. To be honest with you, I think it will be okay. I got lucky this time... poor upper control arm. I've had 4 vintage mopars, and have built 2 small blocks, and 1 big block, but I have little experience with there front ends. I've never changed torsion bars, I've never pulled the lower control arms. I've done tie rods, pitman arms and centerlinks. I just really screwed up this upper control arm. I guess I should think about it like this: In all, I've done WAY more good for this car than bad!

Man Oh man...Sorry to hear it. If I were you I would at least tac weld it or just replace. If that puppy comes apart, you or your car might not be around to tell us about it..

Good luck!

The Socket for that is a square/rounded corners and is 1 59/64"

I wouldn't try to tighten it now, I'm with Prop, replace the control arm and ball joint. We all make a mistake now and then, it's a sign of trying. Never try anything and who the hell are you?

So I picked up the kit again and got my half inch drive impact out, and broke the ball joint loose. Then I retightened it to the 125 ft/lbs I believe it's supposed to be at. It torqued down fine. I think it will be alright.
