Opinion on Super Bee clone

In my own personal opinion the body colored bumpers and the blacked out grille looks like "PURE ***", that would have to go, I would drive it without bumpers and grill before I drove it like that !, just my opinion.

Definitely check out the rust he disclosed. That means crawling under it, look under the carpet, trunk floor, battery box. that will depend upon how much it going to cost to repair and whether it a good deal or not.

Rust repair can end up costing you more then what you paid for it. and all for a clone.

It hard to tell in pictures what kind of shape the car is in.

Do plan on spending some money on the interior. Blankets covering the seats usually mean they look like poo. That will cost you somewhere around 700 for material and another 300 on up for a shop to install the new foam, and seat covers. that price doesn't include media blasting and painting the frames, (which will most likely need to be done)

Rechroming the bumper back to orginal (if you go that route) will cost around 500 on up. It cost me 720 in here. most likely they needed rechromed, and didn't want to spend the money, so they painted them instead. Used Car lot trick.

If all what you want to do the car and how deep you pockets are.

Totally agree, i was there last weekend and walked around it. Its body is straight, dont see why who ever had it didnt do the seats along with the door panels.

It probably is worth it, these guys have been around a long time, they sell real stuff and clones, and i have neve rheard anything bad about them.

It will be nice to have a big block again, besides sucking gas, i miss my 67 Satellite.

We will see on Sun. Hopefully they will let me take it around the block

It's always a good idea to take someone with you to look at it who can give you a good second opinion . I've done this with a friend before when he went to look at a Cuda. He had already looked the car over and was ready to buy it for way more than it was really worth. After I looked it over (I no emotional involvement in the car so I was looking at it differently) he is glad he didnt buy it. I found: They had lied about the year, the engine was not a 340, it was a well worn out 318, the roof, quarters, hood and header panel were FULL of bondo that was rusting underneath and starting to come off! They had cut the fuel tank sender out and rigged it up with hose of some kind, the floors were rusted, the hood bracing was cut (and the skin was smashed in). Both wheel wells had holes, oh and I think this car was rolled at one time because the roof and quarters had some much filler. Then on top of that the seller mentions Barrett Jackson prices these cars go for, well that deal was out the window.

Now, the Bee clone looks really nice, but the painted bumpers and cheaper wheels says quick sale to me. I would check to make sure it wasn't thrown together. Bring some good magnets and check to make sure they stick in the lower quarters and other places that usually rust. If there is still rust underneath it can get expensive to fix. For the price I would expect a solid car that just needs some finishing on the interior, not metal work.

but the price is too high for this kind of car!

I think so too, i am going to go over it good this weekend. They wont let me have it until i pay for it, so that is another factor.

Do i really want to let it sit on a lot, for a few months knowing i am paying for a clone car, with who knows what happening to it when i am not around.

You got to think about the cost involved to get a car to this level, Could you buy a beater and have it this far long for 12 Gs ?, I would say NO ,......so in that aspect it's a deal, but then figure the cost of completion, plus the initial purchase price to get it where you want it............as far as the painted bumpers, someone could have tried to save money, paint is cheaper than chrome plating.

Look around

The interior is probably torn under the torn covers. The painted bumpers tell a story you don't want to hear.
Look around and see what's out there. Try www.searchallcraigs.com and search for 1969 Super Bee or 1969 GTX. There are originals, clones, and surivors.

I agree, the person probably has at least $12,000 into it. kinda wonder if he just ran out of money. It looks like he spent money on the door panels, and didnt do the seats.

Bumpers too, wonder if they were all rusty, or if he just wanted a monochrome car. Looks like he did the engine pretty good, dont really like the rims, but those can be changed.

Rust? Well, my Scamp has rust, but it can be fixed. The Scamp has more rust than this it looks like, i will look better this weekend.

Price, welllllllllllll, in my opinion, i paid too much for th eScamp too, but it has been a good little car with no issues, other than rear quarter rust.

We shall see this weekend. I will keep everyone informed.

Hey, I see you from WA. I bought my Satellite survivor in Washington State, near to the Columbia River Gorge!

Nice looking car too. I had a 67 Satellite with a 383, and a 2.93 rear end.

I had the engine rebuilt with 450 hp, the think had a pretty unlimited top end. I left a new (1996 then) Mustang Cobra in the dust on the freeway, must have been doing 150mph.

I miss that 383, 440 power. I havent driven a big block for a long time.

just remeber a clone is a clone but go find a car buy it and put it together will have that in it plus your time this one you can put the key in it and enjoy

With out seeing it it's hard to say, if you want another person to go with yha who has an unbiased opinion I would be happy to next week sometime.

Good point, its not a real Super Bee, so i dont need to worry about numbers matching, original motor, too many miles etc.

Sure, we are supposed to go look at it Sunday, if that doesnt work, i can call the guy and tell them a different day.

A Clone gives you the freedom to modify and build it to your Hearts Desire without sacrificing an original numbers matching car that could have some serious show potential.

Seems like a lot of coin for clone. My 1st opinion is the car was churched up for quick sale.
Get a paint density meter and check the panels for filler and paint thickness. I would crawl all over that car and check everything. Its hard to tell but even the rear wheel wells look worked over, thats not bad if it done correctly. I would get it on a lift to the underside for rot and compression test the engine as a start. The seller should be open to this and may be willing to assist you. If he wont, there may be hidden problems. Good luck.

IF the interior were done, and IF it didn't need rust repair, and IF the running gear is sound, then I'd think the asking price is pretty close to it's worth even needing the bumpers and grill redone. (I've got a pretty nice grill that is more than usable as is including the bezels)

Ultimately what WE think doesn't matter. If the car gives you wood and YOU are comfortable with the price, then it's worth it
