It's 60 years old. You need a new timing set. I can see the loose chain from here.

Does that suprise you ????????

It’s amazing it lasted this long……

You are blessed it didn’t disintegrate & cause
Lots of internal damage!!!!

Those components were designed with one thing in mind . NVH . Negligible Vehicle Harmonics . ……….. quiet running engines ….

They were cheaper and quiet, usually they schuck the teeth. Put a good Rollmaster double roller on it. You are lucky that you caught at this stage.

Mine made it at least 40 years, engine rebuilt in '76 and I changed it 2016. But who knows if it was even replaced back then...

Usually you find all the tooth plastic in the pan...

The factory assumed those would all be gone by the time the 70's ended lol.

It was a decent design, did exactly what the factory wanted it to do. Just not what us far future people want for performance.

A friend raced his Bronco off-road and always used the OEM timing set. I ask why and he explained that it was lighter than steel, and cheaper but, he did replace it yearly.

  Save weight. You could save weight with a 7 1/4 rear end under your race car too.
