Hi!

I was out drivning when my RR started to overcharge 18v whats the problem the alternator regulator is new just installed it 3days ago.

Getting tired when i cant even drive a whole day.

Can you give us a bit more detail on the car?
- Year? Stock wiring? Stock alternator?
- Does the regulator look like a squarish block with screw terminals for the wires, or is it a flat pack with a plactic/rubber wiring connector going to it?
- Does the alternator have 1 or 2 small wires on the back? (Not counting the large output wire...)

With some info, we can help you get this solved.

wiring is not stock, alternator is not stock also.
It has 2 small wires.
Yes its a squarish block with screw terminals. :D

We got everything to work all the lightnings inside the car then i just wanted to drive, then next problem haha.

Drove for a full day 7-9 hours then when we were heading home it started to overcharge, gets me so mad haha. :(

What about the battery, did you buy one of those oem style red or yellow or green lead acid ones? If so they need distilled water in them or they dry out sometimes an overcharge situation is what is produced

OK, well it is hard to tell what you have if 'not stock'. The voltage regulator sounds like the orignal type on your car..which was for a single field wire Chrysler alternator. But the alternator sounds like a newer 2 field wire Chrysler alternator.

When you say 'not stock', do you mean another brand/type (like Saab or Opel), or that the part is not the orignal part that came on the car from the factory, but is still a Chrysler (Mopar) part?

I think we need some pix of the voltage regulator and alternator (back side of the alternator); otherwise, we're shooting in the dark. (As we say over here when we are just guessing!).

Did the new voltage regulator work OK for the first 2 or 3 days, or is this known?

What part of Sweden are you in? Are you near where they run the big Swedish Winter rally?

If you finagled a saab voltage regulator onto the back of the alternator I wanna see it. Pictures would help greatly. If it is overcharging then too much voltage is being applied to the field circuit. Either a faulty regulator or wiring issue here.

My 72 charger was doing the same thing, if you have a external voltage regulator (mounted on the fire wall) it needs to have a solid ground. I got my volt reg from napa and I had to scrape some extreme thick paint off of where the bolts heads touch the volt reg and also clean up the rust from the fire wall. grab some beer, dremel or sand paper and touch up all of your grounds. use some dielectric grease to prevent corrosion and further headaches
