Does anyone know of an overdrive transmission that will bolt to a 440 and handle the torque yet still live on the street?
Thanks

OverDrive

I dont know of an Overdrive that will bolt up to a BB. however, i am in process of putting a 518 (46RH) behind a 426 Wedge. in order to do that i cut off the bell housing and put a Ultra Bell on it. I am going to build the trans to handle about 700 hp. PATC is one of the companies that have the high performance parts for doing this.

check california performance transmission. he is Art Carr who the race guys will know. his web site has mopar trannys listed. i bought a o/d tranny and converter off him last year for a 820hp build and it works great.

he does list the 518 tranny.

They only made one later really hard to find BB 833OD bell which also fit the NP435/445 truck trannys. #4039670. It takes the 143T flywheel.
Can machine out the hole on a car bell and machine down the hub on the OD tranny to mate and use the 130T wheel.

how much does that run if you don't mind me asking? What are you rpms now with the setup.

Simple. Get a input shaft collar for a 4.80 hole, get a big block bellhousin and bam call it a day. The cast iron case overdrive will handle a stock to mild big block in stock form. So will the aluminum case.....BUT getting the case bushed for the counter shaft is real nice insurance.

i just put a 76 OD tranny on my 440-505 stroker, used a lakewood bellhousing, I could of used a stock BB housing as i bought an older style main case (68) ( as it is stronger design and made out of cast instead of aluminium) and put all the internals form the OD in. but to beef it up i used stronger and better designed synchros.

need any more info feel free to ask

Ohhhh my bad a auto OD nvm then

price for mine was very reasonable when compared to other sources but, i got a break due to my connection at westech performance. without going to look up the receipt it was in the 3000.00 area. we sent the dyno sheet to art and he built the converter to match. what numbers do you want. the builder says set the liminator at 67 and shift at 6400. i couldn't do it. its a bit high for me and i will never replace this motor for what i have in it. i set it at 64 and sift at 6000. peak torque is at 5200, 742 tq.. dosen't matter i am just having fun, not taking it serious.

ooops; this is in reply to torkmnstr above.
