Hi

I have a set of brand new connecting rods that I got at a swap meet with the number P4532736 AB stamped on them. They are for a 440 engine. I am trying to find out some more info on them before I go ahead and use them but I haven't been able to. Has anyone ever seen these? any info would be appreciated

depends on what your going to do with them. for a street engine i'd use them, if they're not too heavy.

I have 2 ways I can go with this, the 1st is replace the heavy 45 year old 6-pak rods attached to KB184 pistons. I put together that engine about 20 years ago and it's getting tired so a fresh up is in order for it. BTW I liked the info you provided on quench in another post, it's very informative. I also wanted to possibly cut the head .040 and deck clock about .010 to get a reasonable .040 quench but at he same time it would bump compression about .75 to aprox 10.0.Another thing I noticed is that the recess in the head varies from cylinder to cylinder some are 100 thou, some are 110 some 115 so it's not that easy setting the quench correctly.

The 2nd way I could have gone is put them into a 400 I have lying around and build a 451 out of it.

The car spends 90% of time on street anyways and a few runs at the track for fun

if the 184's are already hung on the rods and they're usuable then use them. the rod is heavy but the piston is lighter, by about 140+ grams. sometimes rod weight can be over emphasized. piston weight is more important. if the assembly was balanced befor it should be ok.

as far as the heads go i'm going to guess you have '452's. 452's are the only heads that have goofy chambers. keep in mind quench does not "have to be" .040". usually you shoot for .045" with a plus or minus .005" with those pistons. do some measuring and try fitting .040" to the shallowist chamber and letting the deepest go .050". if you take .010" off the block and .040" off the head you'll need a .039" gasket or the quench dome will hit the head. i've used a 90 degree die grinder and sanding discs to even out the quench pad depths, if that helps.

your piston rod combo won't fit in a 400 block.
