The car is an all numbers matching 69 RR convertible. The only non matching item is the paint.. It is Y1- Lemon Twist (a 1970 color)

I am thinking about redoing to back to Y2- Sunfire Yellow (1969 color)

The Y1 color seems more striking.

What would you do?

I tell ya what - I thought I liked bright yellow like the Y1 until I went to the last Mopar Alley car show here in northern California in 2011. I saw the most beautiful sunfire yellow paint on a '69 roadrunner. It looked glossy and immaculate. I talked to the original owners, an older couple who bought it brand new in '69 and have it garage kept at all times. I didn't know sunfire yellow could look that good. As long as you don't leave it in the sun so it doesn't fade and keep the shine looking good, sunfire yellow is my favorite yellow out there. They didn't come clear coated from the factory, but the car I saw had such a deep high shine to it, it looked clear coated to me, although the original owners didn't say it was clear coated.

This is all assuming that cost and time in the paint shop is not an issue. I still think the current paint you have on there looks great! It just depends on what your goals are for the car.

Y1 is more striking, more ballsy yellow IMHO. Keep it Y1. Not to mention the amount of money/time it would cost, I would go for a much bigger color change than a shade of yellow- like... Plum Crazy!

I wouldn't bother unless it actually needs a paint job.

As much as I disliked the viper yellow on a local 73 Duster that should have been Y1, I do like the Y1 on your 69.

here is a Y2 on a car (not mine) for comparison

How old is the current paint job? Is it decent or are there areas that need attention? I wouldn't spray a quicky paint job on a car like that. Alot of shops will tell you they won't warranty their work unless the old paint is stripped off first. And you never know what you will find underneath that. Depends how much $ you want to spend on it.

the current paint job is 8-9 years old now. It was changed from Y2 to Y1 back in 2003. The job is decent but not where I would like it. There was some matching done at some point and you can see in the right light where it was done. There are also 2 small cracks and 1 small bubble on the car. I would definitely strip the car down and either switch back to Y2 or redo with the same Y1.

Sounds like the difference between a several hunred dollar fix what you have, or several thousand dollars to change to Y2. Depends on how bad you want the original color. It's your car and only you should make that decision.

I love it

I like the brighter yellow, personally, loo:headbang:ks good!

mine -ride it like i stole it-yours-how cleaan do you want your car-and how deep are your pockets--one day you might want to sell it--the big dollars will come back if it is fixed right--my 2cents

That is what I am hoping.... if I bought it right and invest in the right updates, I wouldnt take a beating if I ever need to sell.
I think the original color if done at a high quality level will add value but not sure if that value is $2k or $10k.......

how much value do you guys think having the original paint color would add?

Before you ask that question, bring your car to at least 2 bodyshops that you MIGHT trust with your car.Get a price on a repair and a color change. Then you can make an educated desicion.:frog:

Y2

Here is mine. If you have the coin and want the original color go for it...I'll do you a favor and trade ya. Save you the headache...NIce Bird
