I painted the inner part of my hood letters with a paint pen for painting glass from Hobby Lobby thinking if it would stick to glass it would stick to chrome. Came out looking pretty good. The paint says to make it more durable you can bake it in the oven at 325 for 40 minutes. My question is this. Will the letters and chrome take 325 for 40 minutes without it damaging them? Anyone try to powder coat over a chrome backing over cast metal before which would be about the same thing with regard to heat to cure?

I would think they would hold up just fine. Lead doesn't melt at 325 degrees

Be careful heating them up too much -- lots of those trim / accessory pieces are pot metal which doesn't take heat very well unless you know what you're doing. These pieces can be restored though. Here's a couple Before and After Pics to illustrate.

I went ahead and baked them in the oven and they came out pretty well. Repops are available $90. I did notice that the repop 67 GTX rear seat center emblem I bought two and a half years ago before the car got hung up in the paint shop has started losing its chrome plating. has been on the shelf in my dry garage and never put on the car or exposed to the elements. Thanks for the quality, China!

Thank the cheap asses who had it made in China, and all the others who buy stuff, and don't care where stuff comes from.

I would of just stuck them out in the hot Jax sun and let them cook, but that's just me.
