Does anyone know if the wire looms came painted from the factory in 69? I would think that had to since most were put on with the head bolts. Once they are on the engine, did they paint everthing, I know that the plastic blocks on th wire looms were white, so they might have added them later.

They were painted, white insulators and all. And an FIY, the exhaust manifolds were on the motors when they were painted.

Wire looms,PCV valve, distributor, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, oil pressure sender, temp sender, spark plugs, harmonic balancer, and oil filter all were on the engine when it got painted.
Do not dig into it too much. The factory line way of doing things was crude and no attention to detail was paid.Besides how do you shoot a moving object with a paint gun?? very quickly and on to the next one coming down the line...
It is not uncommon to se parts of the engine with huge thick paint runs, and others have little or no paint on certain areas.

The back of the motors are unpainted and I guess they werre painted standing on their back. That may explain the paint runs going from the front to rear of my valve covers.
But I could be wrong..who knows??

Motor mounts (painted black) were added later right before installation.

Actually they were painted as if on an engine stand. You can find very little paint sprayed on the bottom of the sump, with paint runs and dripping off the edges of the sump. At least on the 4 speed cars the bellhousings were partially painted engine color as well.

source for white plastic insulators

speaking of the plastic insulators....does anybody know of a source for replacements? I have the metal frames but all the plastic insulators are missing. '70 440 GTX
