Hey guys, when my headlights are on should my parking lights be on also? Because mine aren't. They come on when the light switch is pulled halfway out like they're supposed to. The turn signals work fine also. I just thought they were to come on with the headlights.
Thanks.

For a 1966, it's normal for the parking lights to switch off when the headlights turn on. I believe it was the 1970 model year that federally mandated the park lights to stay on with headlights.

Is that something that is regulated in the headlight switch? If so, could I replace with a latter model seeing that my needs replacing do to the dimmer switch?

On my 68 Runner, the parking lights in front go out when headlights are turned on. This is normal on that year anyway for sure.

Between 68 and 69/70 headlight switches remain the same and only added a jumper wire on harness between rear parking lights and front parking lights prongs at switch plug. Switch itself is the same. So you could find the prongs and make the same

Back in the day before cars had these lights stay on, we wired the parking lights to come on when the key was turned on so they were always on and stayed on when headlights were on as well. It was a "cool" thing to do. The auto safety folks stole our idea and we didn't get any reward for the trick...lol.

Hey thanks guys. So if i understand correctly i just need to make a jumper wire between the black and yell-tr wires? With that being done parking lights should come on with headlights, and no problems with my turn signals correct?

yes, that will make the front parking lights ( yellow traced circuit ) will stay on being sourced also from the rear parking lights circuit ( black wire ) instead just the front parking lights circuit once you turn on the headlights, where originally they are cut

ad same jumper wire here if you want they stay on while headlights on

I just happened across this park light thread. I have a '67 plymouth belvedere, and i was going crazier than an outhouse rat. I did not know the park lights turn off with the headlights on. One more thing the console courtesy lights ( not for the gear selector light). In the kick panel harness there is a pink wire with an inline fuse that plugs by the red wire on the bus bar to power those lights, another 1967 oddity.
