My car came with a 6 bbl style air cleaner (but not on car), with base to fit my single 4 bbl. I have seen some cautioning about checking hood clearance with a Performer RPM intake manifold. Does anyone know if a 440, with RPM Manifold, 800 CFM Edelbrock AVS and 6 bbl style air cleaner will have hood clearance in a 1970 Roadrunner (non air grabber)?

Thanks!

I don't know specifically about that air cleaner, but I can tell you I have a Performer RPM and 800 CFM Edelbrock AVS on my '67 Charger, and I only have about 1"-1.5" clearance from where the air cleaner base sits on the carb to the hood... It's a tight fit. I have to use a 1-5/8" drop base and 2-5/8" tall air cleaner. 3" and 2.75" didn't fit. I'm sure it hurts the breathing of the motor, but I can close my hood. The air cleaner top has a slight point to it, which helps overall.

Get yourself an air filter top like the K & N Extreme and you won't have to worry about it choking your motor dpstark2. Recessed for the wingnut as well

What if you have a dual feed line and an electric choke 800 avs ? It's an interesting topic. Will be dealing with this problem myself. No six pack air cleaner though.

When you say 6 BBL air cleaner you probably mean the single 4 BBL oval air cleaner. There are two bases for that singe 4 BBL, one for the 383 and one for the 440 (low block vs. high block) and the 440 one is shorter. I used to run the 383 oval air cleaner with a torker and I recall it fitting OK. The factory 6 BBL air cleaner is totally different and has what would be equivalent to a drop base to accommodate the taller 6 BBL intake. The factory goal was to keep the air cleaner at the proper height to fit the air grabber seal. If you were running a 383 then you might get by with a 440 base to accommodate the taller intake.

For comparison I had a 440, Torker, 780 Holley Vac 2nd Dual feed, and the oval 383 4 BBL air cleaner wouldn't clear the hood. 440 one might have but am doubting. I have it on a Carter, stock 440 manifold now, and had to adjust the AG hood up a little for clearance

Not sounding good, but we'll see when I get the motor back in the car. Geez, I hope that is soon, the weather is actually turning nice here.

The 440 Ramcharger air cleaner would hit the framework on the rear of the power bulge hood on my Super Bee,440 engine with street dominator intake ,also requires the 3 speed wiper motor.
