Hi All,

I've been mulling over this for a while now, so I thought I'd post up to see if anyone could help shed some light.

I'm thinking of bucket seats that I would have as an other option instead of the bench 'FER RACIN' and spirited driving. But I'm keen to keep the day 2 look I've built the car around.

During the late 60's early 70's, what style of seats were the racers and the street machines using when swapping in 'racing' seats? I know there was some talk of the A100's because of their lightness etc. but what were the aftermarket options? or what were the popular OEM swaps? Looking for something that is supportive but genuine period looking.

I's assume there was some interest at the time in maybe Vette or Porsche seats? Keen to know.

TO be honest, I'm keen to see any photo's of race and street machines of that era so I can get more of a feel of the look that was in style then.

Cheers!

Rugged Ridge seats look period and they have high back and low back. $150/$160 cheaper than A100 seats.

90's caravan seats, light and cheap.

kirkey aluminum vintage buckets. They are as comfortable as sitting in a barrel but they look the part.

Thanks Guys, they are all great brands etc, but I need to know what the look was? there are a heap of different designs on each of those sites, what was 'THE LOOK' for the late 60's-70's?

Love some pics if any one has any or a link to where I can find some? Google is pretty unreliable for getting an accurate time period snap shot.

Slink they look good, but bloody uncomfortable!! I'll keep that idea as a back up, I reckon I'm looking for more of a wanna be drag racer - street maching/racer look. Kinda what the 'kids' were running.

the kirkeys come up often in pics of true 2 seat sports cars of the era like vettes and ac cobras. I wasn't around back then but I appreciate the nostalgia. I would wager most folks were running stock seats, they didn't have summit racing to just drop ship a pair of race seats on your front porch!

I hear you on the Summits call, but I'm sure there would have been some popular stock swaps or mail order products. Sounds like there were some really good speed shops around so-cal and Detroit at the time, so there must have been some after market support like the kirkeys.

I do like the kirkeys, but I recon the missus with not be happy to use them if I leave the seat in!

Not looking good for options that are period and bolstered...

We raced Gassers in the 60's, and there weren,t any Kirkey, A-100 van seats, or Ricky Recardo seats made at that time. What we used were cheap light seats from sports cars from over seas, such as Simca, Austin Healy, Datson, etc. Some of the guys even used a fiberglass seat with no head rest and a cheap roll and pleat seat cover. Check out the seats in the early dune buggys. Thats what we used before the dune buggies. Use some imagination on your seat choice.

Great feed back thanks! Exactly what I was after, I'll have a look about and see what I can find in that vein.
