Thanks guys for all the good responses for other questions I’ve had. Well here is another one for ya. I found a couple sets of 440 pistons lying around and was wondering if there is a database out there someone knows of that I can go to and find what year these pistons were produced in? I have someone interested in them but I don’t want to mis-quote what they are and might be interested in using them myself. I came up with part numbers casted into the side of them but have been unable to find a match for them yet. Here is what I’ve found cast on the pistons next to the wrist pins. 217 17 and on the other side is a F. The rods should be standard 440 60's rods, they have a casting # of 1851835 df1000-1 ms3049. Even if there is a page that gives me the factory measurements of pistons so I can compare these that would be great. Thanks again!

One way to ID them is to measure the compression distance and compare that dimension to a piston application guide. Not hard to do. Use dial calipers and measure from the piston top to the top of the piston pin bore, then add half the diameter of the pin bore.

Thanks Meep-Meep. Thats what I was looking for, you know of any online piston guides I can reference my #'s with?

I don't know of any on line but an automotive machine shop should have a piston book. I know my buddy has one and I may find what you are looking for in there if I had an accurate dimension.
