I wanna get rid of the glass on the belvedere. Just wondering what you guys suggest to replace it? It's for all the glass except for the front window.

Plexi yellows with time and isn't nearly as strong as the Lexan...hence the price difference.

I cut all mine from 1/8" lexan. The rear window fits into the rubber. 1/4 windows are fixed. The doors go up and down with straps. All edges are sanded and look stock. The vents are 1/4". the windshield is stock. This saved 84lbs on my 64.

those are the nicest plastic windows i have ever seen dvw!nice work.lexan for sure on the choice between the two ryguy.plexi not only yellow with age but cracks and splinters as well.

Thanks guys, lexan it is! I'm going to cut it myself though. They don't need to roll up or down, I just need to shed some pounds out of the car. Ending goal is to get under 2700 without me in it.

Got my 66 Belvedere down to 2950 with the AC still on it! But it was a /6 automatic car....8 3/4 rear, all glass, gutted interior, hole punched door structures, glass hood, no undercoating.

Mines a '65 4door turbo/6 with 904, 8 3/4. Gutted everything, even wiring harness has been simplified. One seat, no cage, all steel, 10 gallon plastic fuel cell, I'm sure there will be more when the car's all finished up.

What does it weigh now? The 4 door will be a bit more. Mine is a 2dr post but your rear doors are in the perfect location. My first car was a 66 Belvedere II and I had no problem getting traction after a 383 was dropped in. My present car also was running 15x7 cop car wheels and no front bumper. A buddy has a 72 Demon with a 318/904 and 8 3/4 bucket seat and console car with just the crappy carpet removed and that thing was just under 3000 lbs. It came from the factory with no undercoating. It surprised me at that weight...nearly as light as mine without all the work I did lol

Lexan can flex allot more with out breaking like "plexiglass" does, most sanctioning bodies don't allow "plexiglass" even, be careful don't go to thin the weight savings differences between 3/16th & 1/8" or even 3/16 & 1/4" isn't really enough to justify the thinner materials if you can use & fit the thicker materials... JMHFO anyway... also make sure you pre-drill with a couple sizes of bits step up gradually & use tape over the edges when you cut & drill, so it doesn't crack &/or splinter, use only a soft diaper like material or micro fiber cloth not a towel or terrycloth to clean them either & never brush/wipe off dry, they scratch like hell/crap otherwise, then make sure use the proper type cleaner for Lexan too, not some grocery/hardware store cheapo window cleaner or Windex...

Thanks for the tips Budnicks!

Cranky: My dad weighed it before it was handed down to me. With him (170#), a trunk full of groceries, and a full tank of gas it was 3600 lbs. I'm running no bumpers, no heater, no wipers, stock gauge cluster is gone. No carpet, headliner, interior trim, sound deadening. The driver seat is a BRIDE reclinable bucket (pretty sure it is under 20# with rails). It's a shell with a drivetrain basically haha. Eventually I'll find a fibreglass front end. In the far future I'm sure I will get it under 2500lbs, it just isnt in the budget right now.

Mine was 3370 when I got it...not much gas in it, messed up factory rubber floor mat, trunk mat and about 2000 lbs of undercoating!! Never seen so much undercoating on a car before....oh yeah, it also had about 99 coats of paint on it too. Filled up two 5 gallon buckets after scraping it off with a razor scraper lol
