Can this be welded and machined. It's a poly cast iron dual quad manifold as you can see it has a crack where it looks like it's either been dropped or someone took a hammer and chisel to remove it from the engine.

That crack won't hurt anything. If you want you can drill it thru where the cracks end so they don't spread but even if that piece broke off what will it hurt? What it looks like is someone tried to pry it off the engine. If you have ever welded cast iron you would appreciate me suggesting that your next move would be to get a gasket kit and install that bad boy!

Thank you Meep I think I will drill it fill it with JB weld and get it ready for the sale at the Garlits show coming up in Ocala.

Your second guess (happened while prying off) is most likely. The other crack (on top) appears it may head towards the water jacket. If that continues, it would be bad.

As for repair, that one would be easy by someone who has experience welding cast iron. I just had a 4bbl manifold that arrived (UPS) with the entire driver front corner (approx 6" triangle) broke off. The guy I bought it from didn't wrap it, just dropped it in a box and shipped it. Took it to a local machine/ weld shop and they re-attached the corner for $80. I leveled the surface that mates to the head with a skim coat of JB Weld and will be bolting to my `66 318 once rebuilt.

This one is tricky. As a buyer, I would be more comfortable seeing the crack in it's original state rather than buying a repaired intake...unless I knew 1st hand that the repair had spent significant time on an opperating engine and all was well. Unfortunately, either way I would not expect to get (or pay) top dollar for this piece. Knowing what mine cost to fix, I could not imagine this repair going over $40?

If I were using it,, I would probably follow Meep's suggestion.... If I were selling it, I would have two prices in mind,,,, as is, and after welding and resurfacing. These costs with profit in mind would dictate my next move,,,, I certainly put a 100 dollars into something that will bring 150, when I could sell it as is for 90......

I'm with dako if you just want to sell. Leave it as is to sell it.
