Ok so here is my dilemna...I got tired of looking at both plymouths sitting broken down in the parking lot so I had the both towed to a mechanic (Thanks AAA!). He states that both engines are trash...slant six dropped a valve and the 318 in the wagon broke the timing chain and bent up "all kinds of stuff".
The wife wants me to take the $4k we have in savings and use it for a down payment on a new/used vehicle of some sort (She actually wants a tahoe for herself and then my DD would be the caravan..ewww).
My idea is to put a new drivetrain into the sedan. Im thinking a stock replacement 360 from an autoparts store (they come with a 3 yr, 100,000 mile warranty), having the 904 transmission in the wagon rebuilt, use the k-frame, mounts and driveshaft out of the wagon as well. Have the rearend (8 1/4) in the sedan regeared to something around 323 of 355. Put just a standard edelbrock performer cam/intake/and 650 CFM carb. I would also need the radiator out of the wagon as well as a new engine harness.
Will all the brackets and hoses and such off the 318 bolt directly up to the 360 block? I am pretty darn sure they are the same block with different cranks and bores.
I will also have to get a new exhaust system put in since the slant 6 exhaust would be way different than the exhaust system for a 360.
Fuel line size wont matter and will just have to be adapted for the 360 yes?
The wagon is getting a 451 and I already have another K-frame for it. So using all the small block parts off the wagon for the sedan is not an issue...oh will I have to swap torsion bars from the wagon to the sedan as well?
Can all this be done for under $4k? (Long Block 360 stock replacement is $1300)
Also this is just for daily driver use and no need for go fast stuff, cheap and reliable.
