Possible Hemi Install?

Guys, I have run across a 1966 426 Hemi a may purchase. I wanted to know just how involved it would be to convert my 1966 361/727 Satellite to a hemi? I have heard the K member is different is this true? Can someone explain just how much will have to be changed to accomodate the elephant? I appreciate your help on this issue.
I originally bought the car because it reminded me of my dad's 66 hemi/4-speed Satellite. Yes, I have purchased and begun building a 440/512 for the vehicle knowing that someday I wanted to convert to a hemi. Never know I may just go ahead and change to 833 4-speed also. I have a 833 and pedals already. Well, maybe that will be different post later. Thanks in advance for your information.

I am working the deal but it is a 1966 426 Hemi with 66 model heads, intake, carbs, and valve covers for $2500.00. the guy said a cylinder is hurt. Do not know exactly how bad or if sleeve will be in order. The heads are worth that, right? Not to mention a complete hemi for that number. I am more worried about the conversion at this point because if the engine is repairable it is mine.

Doing the swap is way to much money and effort. Give me the Hemi so you dont have to go through all that trouble and spend all your money !

I know the swap will be a money consuming project. But coming across this after accumulating and spending 6K on stroker wedge parts is a shame, non the less.

So the swap to a hemi can be accomplished fairly easily with some mounts? What about brackets, pulleys, and such. Will any of the RB brackets or pulleys work? I saw that Mancinni has pulleys including power steering. I figure alot of small minute details will come to pass before this is over.

I'm sure the Schumacher mounts make the job easy.The crossmember is different and people probably want a mint for originals.As far as installing the hemi being more expensive I dont think it is.You can pick up used B&E body hemi headers foe a song(more supply than demand) The radiator isnt any different than a 440.Most of the brackets and linkages are available repro'd and the trans is the same.Nobody opens the hood on a 440 and goes WOW so even if it cost a couple of grand extra its worth every penny. For the price you quoted for the hemi you would be foolish not to buy it.The rockers sell at swap meets for $1500 and the heads would bring a couple of grand.Block even with a sleeve is $1000-$1500 and so on and so on.Its a money maker. Go for the 4 speed, you dont have to use a hemi 4 speed, just stick a 23 spline in there if you aint floggin it hard. That would be way cool stupid fun. Come pick me up when your done.

This motor just takes your break away when you get her rolling. The motor is worth the experience. Schumacher creative sells the conversion mounts, they are doing it many years and provide a quality product. For Pulleys these guys are really good and reasonable priced.
bouchillonperformance.com/BPEpulleys.asp The rocker arm assembly should be checked for tip wear. The 1966 had weak main caps that cracked easily, otherwise try to get the complete motor. If your reasonable pick up a used duel plane intake and run one carburetor. Stay away from the duel afb's they are cranky and more power is made with a single carb.

I had a 1966 Hemi that I street raced for 15 years in a number of different cars and I know they say that the 1966 blocks are weak but believe me I gave this thing more than ample opportunity to fail and it just kept taking a beating.After that it burned up in my garage when my house burned down and then I took it to the machine shop and freshened it up and put it in a 1966 Hemi Charger where it still is today. So dont be afraid of a 1966 model, in fact if your scared you can give me the phone number and I will take it. If you decide to go single four barrel I have a Mopar Performance intake(off a crate motor) that I will take $150 for. Its brand new.

Not afraid of the stock 66 block but just do not know whether it can be repaired at this point. Actually paying 4K for 66 hemi block(damaged), set of 66 heads, set rockers, 2 sets of hemi rods, 3 hemi balancers, hemi crank, 4 sets of valve covers(2 sets date code 66), two four 66 intake, single four intake, and cable drive SS distributer, plus 71 HP 440 complete, 71 400 short block, set of 915 heads, chrome 67 RT/GTX valve covers, 2 sets of hp manifolds, and numerous hemi/wedge gaskets.

The rods are OK to use but you probably cant get a lot of money for them(eagles etc. are too cheap)The balancers are worth $75/$100 each. The crank is OK to use but probably wont sell for more than $300. $ sets of valve covers at $100 each, two four intake for $300-$500, single four $150,Cable drive dist. $150, Complete 440 at least $500, 400 short block about $200, 915 heads $200, 67 Valve covers at least $75 and 2 sets of HiPo manifolds at least $250 each.So your looking at $5900 at the minimum prices and thats not including the block.I dont know what needs to be repaired but if it just needs a sleeve its no big deal. I think you could sell all of the leftovers and buy a new block and pistons and still come out on the deal.

Thanks for the information. I am supposed to go assess the parts this coming weekend. My biggest question at this point is whether or not they have had salt water intrusion because of Katrina. If the parts are in descent shape I will go through with the deal, no doubt. You reaffirmed my figures and reasoning for the deal, thanks.
