Does this brake code (31) mean heavy duty manual brakes? 1969 GTX.

According to my books, B31 is 11'' manual adjustable drum brakes.
It also looks like the car didn't come with power brakes either, or it would have had a marking under B51 which would have automatically made it power disc brakes.
I hope this helps........

My book says Dartnut is entirely correct.
Those brakes require occasional manual adjustment with a brake spoon. They do NOT have self adjusters.

Were they all that way? or was that only on the A12 cars ?

And the power disc's would have had ten inch drum rears, with self adjusters.

All 66-69 b-body 11” brakes were manual adjust. So that’s all RR, GTX, RT, Super Bee, and every car that got the optional 11” drums. I had a 6 cyl 2door hardtop with it.

let’s leave taxi cabs out, I don’t have any info on them.

This car is still 11” drums, manual adjust, but someone added a power brake booster. Brakes are very poor, doesn’t seem to generate enough braking power to safely stop the car. Trying to sort it out. All wheels are adjusted out enough.

It might not have the right master to use with a power booster. Personally, I'm not a fan of power brakes on a vintage car. I would go back to manual brakes, with a new manual master.
