hey dudes. I'm installing a new power steering pump & bracket I got from 440 source. I'm currently building the motor (440 block) for my charger. The motor does not currently have a ps pump. So I'm scratching my head with the brackets , pump and bag of bolts I got to install it. My manual is apparently useless and not showing me a exploded view how to install correctly

So... anyone have a exploded view available? I thought I'd ask before I start. I know you guys always have answers

I did do some searching on here, w no luck and googled, but the internet only wants to sell me new brackets ... I found a few photos, but from top side only. Just want to do it correctly the first time.

Thanks in advance ☺

There are 3 types of pumps used on 60-70's Mopars. Looks like all 440source.com sells are for the Saginaw pump. The rear bracket is held on by 2 studs and nuts. And the front with 3 short bolts. The pulley will need to be off to mount the bracket, hopefully you have the correct pulley for the pump because Saginaw had several types/sizes.

Also, I'm curious if the 440source pump comes with the reservoir that's pictured. The description says they're factory parts, but those weren't used until later in the 70's.

Either will work fine though.

The Chrysler one pictured is the "Thompson", correct?

Correct

The 1st picture is a late Saginaw (which is what 440source sells). You can swap the late Saginaw reservoir to the early style as far as I know.

TRW/Thompson and Federal are round with round necks.

You got me thinking, the Thompson isn't considered the Chrysler pump, Federal is right? or both? Maybe that picture is misleading, I pulled it from a Google search.

Technically, I suppose any pump Ma used on the assembly line is a "Chrysler pump", eh?
Beats me. I haven't had a PS Mopar in decades.... :)

The differences on the TRW and Federal pumps is confusing by just looking at pictures. vs. reality. My 66 Charger has over 100K on it and has the original Thomson / TRW pump. Note that mine is a non AC car w/ 383. I have a Federal pump w/ brackets I keep as a spare. There are differences in these pumps... Between these two pump brands, they use different mtg. brackets and often have different pulley dia. The original TRW pump on my car looks like the pix below and pump previously pictured in above thread. The pulley dia. is close to that of the pump body. It uses a 5/8" ID return line ( so does the steer box ) and the return line elbow on the pump body points straight up, not towards the rear as in the pix. I have seen pictures of TRW pumps with a 3/8" return turned towards the rear as the pictures show. As I understand, the TRW is constant pressure pump whereas the Federal is a 2 stage pump, having an internal valve and which reduces pressure at higher RPM's, so steering feel is less sensitive at higher speeds. The brackets mount the TRW pump ( w/ smaller pulley) physically higher on the block. The Federal pumps ( Larger pulley dia. ) brackets mount the pump physically lower on the block. This is so belt clears fan pulley due to larger pulley on the Federal pump. Federal also has a 3/8" ID return line so you would, nee to adapt to use with the 5/8 ID hose coming off steer box.

i think , this is how the brackets are supposed to be orientated on to the water pump's housing (also 440 source) with the open , locking bolt hole as shown.

now , i got these two fancy bolts , no clue where they're supposed to be used. i feel like they supposed to be somewhere if supplied with the kit?

Those are for the back of the pump. Your reman pump has them installed already.

Copy that. I see that now. I think I got it all sorted. Thanks all

I found some of my old (kinda crappy) pics. Same 440source brackets and pump as yours--looks like you got it correct.

Front side. The two bolts on the left attach through the water pump housing. The top bolt goes all the way through and screws through the welded nut on the top of the rear bracket. The square hole for belt tensioning is next to the top hole. Bottom bolt screws into engine block. The remaining holes will align with their locations on the pump.

Rear. You can see the welded nut at the top. The other holes in the bracket attach to the pump.
