Apparently there are no reasonably priced p/w relays available for a 71 charger. Does anyone know how and which modern relay to wire in?

I was in the same boat as you. Couldn't believe the prices people wanted for the right relay. Our local parts guy sold me a Borg Warner R240 for 10$ bucks. I haven't tried it in the car as my old one was ok. ( loose connection) The 3 prong connector fits perfectly. for 10 bucks it's worth a try

I can make a 40a Bosch relay work if I knew which of the 3 pins on the OE relay went where in the car....I have the 3 wire connector so this would be a plug-n-play part...send me PM if interested

There is nothing special about the relay, it just disables power to the window switches when the ignition is off. I added a switch to mine so I can "lock out" the power windows when the kids are in the car.

I also installed relays to drive the window motors and take the current load off the switches.

I have an upgraded plug-n-play relay here, Bosch style. This is a 40a relay, plugs into car harness, and attach one ground wire. See pic below

That's a nice setup, and good price.

the relay above is for the 3 pin OE relay that uses the case for ground..I can make the same set-up for the 4 pin style that has separate ground spade on it

I don't need one, My original relay works fine. I was just commenting that the Relay harness is nice, and it's a good price because you usually have the but the connector shells and terminals in bulk, and it comes with the relay. What grade of wire are you using?

I bought several of the Potter & Brumsfield VBA-1001 relays to operate each window motor and take the high current off the switches. It also grounds the motors through the relay, not the switches, which I needed because my drivers switch has a bad ground pin, and all the motors/switch use that that ground in the stock wiring setup. I also bought the Packard type "T" connectors so I can wire the relays as a plug in deal. It just plugs in between the switch connector and the motor connector, then just need to connect the relay ground and tap into the yellow main +12v power going to the switch. It makes for a cleaner install than wiring two separate relays for each window.

I do buy all of the components in bulk, relay, main relay harness, the plastic 3-wire connector, and the terminals are all separate. I build & market the 3 relay set for the rotating headlight motors in the 66 & 67 Chargers that are located behind the glove box....I have been selling these since 2008.

I want to start selling this one above that I posted for power window Mopars from the late 60's to early 70's

The wire that comes with the relay harness is 14ga & 16ga.

Cool. I was asking what type of wire, not the gauge. Is it standard GTP Polyvinylchloride (PVC) wire, or the higher temp GXL, SXL, TXL Cross-Linked Polyethylene wire?
I was thinking of using the Marine grade Tinned GTPW wire.

Oops...sorry...my bad

I think it's regular PVC wire..it's a plastic style outer coating around stranded wire...it's not that real expensive hi-temp stuff
