I would have liked to put this under the For Sale forum but thought this might be better instead of going under one specific heading.

Curious how most of you arrive at prices for sale-able items. I have a few things I need to unload and spent hours yesterday on Ebay and Kijiji trying to come up with prices. I think the Canadian Market is a bit more stale for used items so prices are in general a bit higher here and harder to find comparables. Even looking through the for sale items here it seems stuff is all over the place price wise.

Any insight?

Mike

It really depends on the actual part... But if your just trying to get rid of them or make some room & a little cash too, then make it a inexpensive/reasonable price, they will move much quicker, even @ just $10-$20 less than the norm... You can always have a "Make Offer" too... IMHFO there's already enough people out there, gouging other car people for mostly old parts and rust already...

large parts will cost much more to ship, you may want to keep that in mind too & price them accordingly, so they will sell even with high shipping costs... Good luck with your parts sale

Thanks for the reply Budnicks,

Part of the problem is the size/shipping which is why I'm thinking more to list things locally on Kijiji and wait out someone local vs. trying to ship... For example I've got complete set tires/rims and the 383 coming out of my car. Now something I don't mind shipping is a Brand new Tach I bought and never installed.

So a couple other things I'm thinking about... I'm thinking about advertising the engine now before it's pulled so if people want the option to come se it running or even come for a ride and see how strong it is the option was there... as a buyer is this something you would appreciate? Also I was planning on selling the engine complete (distributor, carb) minus the front accessories (alternator) and my headers.. Is this a good idea or should I try and separate everything?

Essentially I'm just trying to move stuff out and make some room as well as some $$ to go back into the car

I know I like to buy stuff as complete as possible, less looking for parts & less running around trying to find stuff... People like to get package deals, I think it makes them feel like they got a better deal, but it really depends on what the part is... On an engine, the more information the better {especially on internals & mileage}... If they are looking for a running engine, or working trans etc., seeing it & hearing it run, is a good idea... I rarely have ever bought an engine, trans, rear end etc. & not gone thru it before reinstalling them {that's just me thou}, Kind of sometimes a big rush or really inconvenient for the seller too thou... Actually, I almost prefer shipping parts, rather than have a bunch of people, "that I don't know come to my house" {especially if you live out in the sticks/country rural areas}... It makes it really hard thou, when the shipping costs, especially on larger or heavier parts items, where they need to be shipped by truck & need to have a loading dock, forklift or lift-gate, the door to door costs can be prohibitive... The shipping & handling costs can exceed what the part price could be sold for, it really limits your market, usually just to a local market, where it can be a pick up item... Unless it's a "have to have it" item, that's rare or hard to find maybe, something that is needed, final piece to finish a project, where buyers will actually spend the extra money for shipping... usually high shipping prices, it's a deal killer thou, a big waste of time, for both parties especially the seller, trying to get a deal on shipping...

You've pretty much mirrored my thoughts exactly... Thanks now I just have to figure out where to start with an asking :)

I hear ya both, I have been trying to make room here and listed many many 71-74 B and 73-76 A body parts on kijiji locally after listing much of it at less than half of the prices listed for comparables... even have stuff listed free with barely a bite! I have listed a couple items here as well even shipped an item overseas where shipping so outweighed the $10 I was asking for the part by nearly 600% (I think I made $1.50 on the transaction) Oh well it helped someone out with thier build and I got rid of a part I'm likely never ever to have used.

Oh well I will likely be listing some more of the more easily shipped items here soon because I really do need to make some room in my little half basement storage
