Problem with exterior Door Handles

hello im having problems with my door handles. they seemed to work fine and then all of a sudden i push the button in and nothing. every once in awhile ill hear a click but nothing. then randomly it will work fine for a few times then wham nothing. maby a lubrication problem or possibly somthing loose or broken? any help or anyone who has experianced these problems please let me know... it is driving me crazy

Oh and Sorry is a 1970 superbee so a coronet body

Remove the handle from the door and see how bad the pin and plate are worn. I took the burrs off of them, sprayed inside the handle and latch mechanisms. Applied some lube to the pin and plate, and it works like new. A year later and I don't have any complaints.

looks like the keepers i would assume plastic that hold the shaft over the ball....where missing or broke...i installed a c-clip on each and problem solved
