In general I would say yes. I would use denatured alcohol and the soak the valve. What is the issue that you are having? A clogged port? Denatured Alcohol is normally strong enough to clean out most contaminants, but no harsh enough to hurt the internal workings. I normally use it when rebuilding, wheel cylinders, masters, calipers and flushing brake lines .
Not to contradict Snakeoil, but attached is a page from a service manual outlining how to flush a brake system. Granted this is from a GM book but the same rules apply in cleaning. In fact depending on the manufacturer of the brake cleaner some brands have alcohol as an ingredient. Denatured alcohol is also used in dry gas to remove water. I just didn't want you to feel that I was providing unreliable and incorrect information.
