My son Zach who is 11yrs old has always been into anything with a motor no matter what it was if it was loud he liked it. We have allways been into snowmobiles ,atv's and dirt bikes and have a garage full off all, but over the summer I had the chance to buy a unrestored matching#'s 1970 super bee N96,4spd car so I bought it. The car was in great shape and got it on the road and my boy and I went to cruise nights all summer and had a blast.
Well since the car is put away for the winter we desided to clean up the motor and do basic tune up stuff and both learn more about working on the car the only problem is I cant get a chance to do anything but watch because he want to do it all LOL. At first he didn't want to touch anything incase he messed something up and I said so what if we break something we will fix it and if we don't know how it goes back we will find out so go for it. Here he is going for it

Way to go, my son is out there every chance he can and even when he doesnt want to...LOL
The only way to learn !

That's awesome. My son is 9 months old and he's already turning his toy trike over and studying how it's put together.

The thing I can't wait to do is teach my kids how to drive stick, which by the time they're old enough to learn will be a complete novelty.

It's great he wants to learn all he can. Pass your knowledge down to him or learn things together.

He's really starting to learn how to use tools. I also bought a mig welder a couple years back and he picked that up pretty quick and now he like to practice welding stuff to a old bike he has.

Cool!!! My last change youngest daughter (of 3) liked going to the track all the time until she turned about 11 and lost all interest. Now at 24 she seems to had acquired a new interest in cars. Maybe it'll last!

I'm not a father yet but some of my fondest memories of being a kid are not playing Mario but "helping" my dad out on his projects, plan on doing the same once the time comes!

great thread

prostk sounds like your a great father & it sounds like, you have a great young son there, to be very proud of, teaching them is such a joy, you can spend quality time with them too, especially if you take your time & be patient, I loved the part where you said, "so what, if we break something we'll replace it", it's all an adventure, that's kind of how you learn, I know I learned probably more from my stupid mistakes, than from anything else...LOL... Have fun, that's a great father & son project, enjoy it, they're only young once...

My son and I work on our projects together all the time. Great to see the bonding!! Good attitude and don't sweat the small stuff. Have fun!!

Good to see the kids wrenching on old cars. Way to go DAD! He's learning stuff that will be useful to him his entire life.

My son has been wanting to help me also. I show him what I can as my dad did for me. He is picking things up fast as in knowing when I ask for a certain tool he is getting the right thing and what to do with it. All of us need to pass on what we know and then learn from them when they pass us up.

Yep if he's anything like my parents said I was...LOL... he'll be tearing his stroller apart to make a go-cart or something, when he's 5... I had my first tool kit & set of wrenches on my 5th birthday, I think my Mom regretted it {may she rest in pease}..., I tore everything apart supposedly, even my sisters bikes & doll carriages, bunk beds, I don't really remember now, I'll stand on the 5th now, so I can't incriminate myself... I'm sure I was a terror... My mother remarried a great car guy Bob, when I was 6 y/o, my real father {Pops, who I take care of now}, left when I was like 18 months old, it was just Mom, me & my 2 older sisters, prior to that, my step dad Bob spent allot of time on his project cars & race cars, so I loved being out in the garage, I was an early gear-head in the maken', Mom usually let me, until I was made to go in & go to bed.... I remember allot from those nights, falling asleep on the fenders of Bob's 64 GTO...

Way to go prostk!

I feel a certain kinship with you on this post. I too have an eleven year old (among others). My daughter likes to take part in the hobby too. Here she is wiring in the fuel pump. Pink tinkerbell sweatshirt and all. I love it when they take pride in an accomplishment like this. And like you said, when they screw it up and have to troubleshoot and do it again. Teaches them some character, but even more teaches me patience!

Here's to the next generation of gear heads!IMG_8644.jpgIMG_8647.jpg
