PSA - eBay Scammers Targeting A12 Enthusiasts

Just getting this out. There have been several scams involving A12 cars on eBay. The story is the same each time. Here is the most recent.

Since the listings tend to get pulled down, it would be helpful to describe the scam.

 

[Big D A12]

The listings show a VIN that is not the car pictured. No response to documented questions, only calls, wire transfer only for payment. Pictures are not recent, all from previous auctions or listings.

The victim calls and makes a deal for the car at less than market price and thinks he is getting a deal. (Ad is then deleted) He then agrees to wire half the money over and the remainder paid on delivery. A last minute call is usually made for another $5k wire before shipping. A vehicle tracking number is given to the victim to watch the progress of the vehicle delivery. All looks good until the last stop before delivery, and poof, everything is gone!

This is an actual description of what recently happened to a buyer looking for an A12. It is a very elaborate scheme. If a buyer is going to spend the money to get an A12, please lay eyes on the car or have someone do it for you.
