Allright..........I've got a 65 Dodge I put a 426 wedge into. I thought that was enough trouble...but..I finding out different!!! After 2 sets oh headers, buying all the proper mounts and brackets, changing oil pans twice...I'm having a B.... of a time with the pulleys!!! I thought last night I had solved the problem when a mopar buddy came over and spotted that I had a thick industrial damper on it, so we put the "I think" proper one on. I still cannot get a water pump pulley on it that doesn't hit the lower one. I'm at the end of my rope on this POS. A supposed big block pump pulley is hitting way bad, I got smaller one off E-Bay...still rubs. All my lower pulleys measure 7 5/16 dia. Supposed big block water pump pulley is 7 1/8....next one down is 6 1/8, it rubs hard, and the smallest one is 5 7/8. It clears but is too shallow. I have to have my alternator belt straight from crank to alt. Then power steering pump will go around the fan, crank and pump. HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!! Green balancer is the original. Pulley on the engine in pics is off a mid 80's chrysler!?!?!

You can't do that without rebalancing the engines rotating assembly. Different engines have different balancers depending if it is an internally balance engine or externally. Changing that balancer will damage your engine and make the engine run rough put the old one back on unless you are going to take the engine apart and rebalance it.

What he said.... dont use a cast crank balancer on a steel crank engine....

X2 dont even think about firing it up unless the orig balancer is back on at this point.. and you tried the pulleys with the orig balancer...and they didn't line up?
ALL the pulleys are the originals..off this engine??

I didn't get pulleys with the motor, and I have collected enough of them to stack to the ceiling!!!!Thanks for the warnings on the damper, I'll change it back. But then I'll be back in the same boat as far as fitting up pulleys.....How do you know the difference between B and RB motors. There are no numbers on my block, so I can't go by that

just to the right of the distributor there should be a flat surface and it should have some numbers stamped on it.....are those gone????

Was it an industrial block??

Get a zero balance dampener for a forged crank (not 6 pack) big block, stock or aftermarket. Take it to a competent machine shop where they can "match balance" it to your industrial one. With any luck, the industrial one will be zero balance and no work on the new one will be required. Bolt on the new one and go.
