Can I pull it without taking the cluster out, from under the dash? Just wanted to see if anyone has done it. Got my quartz board and want to install it. Only 3 screws.

For what it's worth, on my '68 Charger I was able to get the tach out without pulling the cluster. It's tight, but it can be done.

I did it on my Charger. Take the front seat out, and take off your shoes. So you don't scuff up the back seat.

Ahh. I forgot about the most important steps! I agree with Demonic. Be sure to remove the driver's /front seat and remove the shoes! Exactly what I did.

davek, not wishing to hijack your thread but as a newbe here, how do you know this is whats needed to be done. My tic toc tach also does not work and I have no clue where to begin trouble shooting....is the quartz board replacement the general cure.....thanks..

My clock doesnt work that is what Im fixing. So does it not work at all ?

So, you can treat the tic-tock-tach as two separate things. If you want to DIY it, a clean work space, tweezers, and a magnifying glass are essential. Carefully separate the clock from the tach. The retainer washers - push nuts - often break.

The clock -
Most Mopar clocks are the same from the 60's to mid-70's. There is a "relay" the contact is at the end of a spring loaded wheel. As it winds down every two minutes, the contact energizes the relay coil and it winds itself. So, if the relay coil is good, many can be brought back to life by removing the hands and cleaning them, the shaft, etc with alcohol. Do not oil the gears, but a tiny bit ( I use Neatsfoot oil, it is very light and does not thicken over time ) on the cannon pinion ( where the hands mount )

Thanks davek, both my clock and tach are not working. But in the links you posted I see the quartz conversion takes the amp draw down from 3 amps to 10-11 milliamps.....that alone prompts me for that change out. Will do the 12 volt "bump" test to check out the tach...thanks much....
