Well I think I'm going to have to replace the front seal on my PB 727. If it were you , would you replace the "O" ring and paper gasket and front bushing also ? Can I just pull out the pump assy without getting involved with the rest of the transmission ? My transmission man and best friend died of liver cancer 1-19-2020. (I should have watched him more carefully and learned more about rebuilding 727s) R.I.P. Tim Fry, miss you man :(

To replace the gasket & O ring the best method is to run the band adjuster in till it tightens, that way you know the drums are staying put, they can't shift & have a clutch disc get misaligned.... Unbolt the pump & pop it out with a couple slide hammer blows... Now unbolt the stator support from the back of the pump housing giving you access to knock the bushing & seal out, remove the pump gears keeping them oriented... Using a bushing driver knock the new bushing in and stake it... Install the new seal, then drop the front pump body over the convertor hub, check the fit of the new bushing, drop the pump gears in and the stator support while the pump is still on the convertor, this center the stator support without special tools, torque the pump to stator support bolts to spec, install the new O ring & gasket.. Install the pump... torque the pump to case bolts to spec, adjust the band.... Have fun...

And don't forget to lube everything well as you reassemble!

"1 Wild R/T if you were wanting to buy a book to guide you through rebuilding a PB 727, which one would you buy ? I also have a 69-71 PTKD 727 core tranny if any of those parts would be an upgrade into my 1962 PB 727.
